LOCKWOOD, Janice Virginia

November 20, 1936 – Lockwood, Saskatchewan
December 8, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janice Lockwood, just 18 days into her 79th year.

Janice was born in Saskatchewan, the daughter of Veronica and Henry Eichorst. Janice lived on the family farm with her sister, Adeline, and brother, Reginald. In her youth, the family sold the farm and moved to Swift Current, where Janice graduated from high school and business school. She started her career at Traders Insurance, and soon met Bob, her husband-to-be. Janice’s destiny must have been predetermined for her; born in Lockwood, Saskatchewan, she married Leonard Robert (Bob) Lockwood on November 19, 1955, after a whirlwind romance.

They began their life together in Grande Prairie, where Janice worked at the local newspaper as a proofreader. Bob worked in the oil industry for Baroid and was transferred all across Western Canada. Before starting their family, Janice was a respected secretary for BA Oil in Estevan. Their first daughter, Kim, was born in Estevan in 1958, followed in 1961 by their son, Rob, born in Regina. They settled in Calgary in 1965, and their second daughter, Pam, arrived the next year. The family moved to University Heights in 1967, and in 1975, she and Bob started their own oil company, Lockwood Resources. Janice lived in their home and continued to work until her passing. Bob adored Janice and it was his life’s purpose to love and cherish his wife for 59 years, until his passing on December 25, 2014.

Janice had many special friendships. She loved her friends and held them close as family. She treasured her special friendships with neighbours and those far away.

Janice was a woman with incredible style and taste. She had a flair for fashion and decorating, and appreciated the arts and the finer things in life. She was a wonderful baker and cook, and made every family event special. She held her family close and enjoyed annual family vacations in Sandpoint, Idaho and Scottsdale, Arizona until her passing. Throughout her 59 years with Bob, they were able to see much of the world together, creating memories that they forever treasured.

Janice is survived by daughter Kim (Barry); son Rob (Linda); daughter Pam (Russell); and five grandchildren; Ryan, Craig, Talon, Garrett and Sydney; brother Reginald (Shirley); nephew Greg (Christina), niece Michelle; and great-nephew Matthew.

A private family grave-side service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

In living memory of Janice Lockwood, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

No one loved and cherished her family more than Janice and we will all miss her wonderful giggle and her rushing around to be sure everyone was cared for and comfortable – a natural at entertaining and caring for people. Bright, fun and always on top of the news whether it was current affaors or the latest in fashions, travel news and home decorating…she had it all. We are very sorry we are not with you over this very difficult period but be assured you are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you all, never forget that.

Pam, Kim & Rob, Talon, Garrett, Ryan, Craig, & Sydney:
I write this with an ache in my heart. Terry and I had such great times with both Bob and Janice.
Because we were of the same “vintage” as well as having similar work in the “patch” we shared so many of the same thoughts and opinions. We looked forward to visiting with them both. When Bob passed away, we continued to visit with Janice . However, we both felt that Janice had lost her zest for life. We hope that in time, you can remember your Mom and Grandmother as the bright, happy, and enthusiastic grand “dame” that she used to be. Full of vigor, lots of strong opinions and able to see the funny side of almost any situation. Terry and I send our love and our sympathy at this time when everything must seem so bleak and sad. Hang on to each other, and remember all the good times you had with both Bob and Janice. Two such wonderful people that we miss dearly. It is so hard to realize that my dear friend Janice is not here to share a joke, a recipe or just plain visiting, anymore.
    Love Terry & Sheila Dexter

  5. Friedenreich family

Dear Kim, Rob, Pam and family,

We were deeply saddened to hear of Janice’s untimely passing this week and our thoughts have been with all of you. We know that Janice was a central person in your family and that you were all very closely connected in your personal and professional lives. We share your sorrow and send you our sincerest condolences at your loss.
We remember so many good times that we shared together in University Heights as well as the many trips that we took to Rancho La Puerta. Janice brought so much elegance and poise to all that she did and her flair and grace will be missed. Our families grew up together and shared so many important times together. We remember bridge nights, the bridal shower she hosted for Christine, the luncheons and dinners and so much more. Janice cared deeply for all of you and we appreciate how much losing both of your parents/grandparents in this past year is difficult for all of you. We hope that you will be able to remember all the very good times that you shared in Calgary and at your holiday home. We send you all of our support, friendship and sympathy at this very challenging time.

Doris, Christine, Annette Friedenreich and families

Dear Kim, Rob, Pam, and Families,

Hearing of the loss of your Mother and Grandmother has deeply saddened us. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Janice and Bob were among the first to welcome our family to Calgary and University Heights. We have fond memories of Janice, her love of life, her droll sense of humor and warm hospitality. She was a good friend and good neighbor. She was a devoted mother who cared for her family deeply. We remember many good times together, family events, bridge nights, and New Years Eve celebrations.
The loss of someone dear to us is never easy but may you take comfort in the fact that you are surrounded by people who love and care for you. God bless you all.
