LENNOX (BUTLER) nee Kary, Helen Elsie

October 6, 1920 – Hemaruka, Alberta
July 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with sorrow and relief, we announce the passing of a much loved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend on July 14, 2018 at the age of 97 years.

Mum was born on October 6, 1920 in Hemaruka, AB, the oldest of 8 children born to Jacob and Pauline Kary. She enjoyed the life of a true prairie girl even during the depression.

The untimely death of her mother forced her to leave school in grade 8 in order to keep the family together and the farm running. Eventually she moved to Coronation, AB working in a variety of jobs.

On November 17, 1941 she married Edgar John Butler and together they raised 4 children. In 1954 they moved to Calgary, when daddy was transferred by the CPR. They moved to Bowness in 1957 and some of our family and friends continue to reside in that community.
Mum enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidery, cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, reading and was a great cook, but the love of her family was the most important thing in her life. In 1975 mum married Robert Lennox and moved to the Ramsay district. After Bob’s passing she returned to Bowness until suffering a stroke in 2009.

Helen is survived by her children Jane Butler, Elizabeth “Betty” MacKinnon, Kary and Sheila Butler; daughter-in-law Marguerite Butler; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Her siblings Ben and Shirley Kary, Herbert Kary , Richard and Noreen Kary, Edna Caseley, and Harriet Peters; sister-in-law Lily Kary; and many nieces and nephews. She is also fondly remembered by members of the Lennox Family.

Helen was predeceased by Edgar in 1969, Bob Lennox in 1994, an infant son, her beloved son Myles in 2008, son-in-law WGB “Jock” MacKinnon in 2011; a sister and a brother; four brothers-in -law and a sister-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive N.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S. 13. The Butler clan has lost a force of nature. We remember with great fondness the planning that went into her surprise birthday party. The plan was to invite her to Myles’ & Margie’s ‘surprise’ anniversary and when asked what she could bring, we quickly thought of her amazing butter tarts. And so, she brought them to her own surprise birthday party and Bill and Kary and Myles were delighted. So were we all. Passing on to the afterlife – is the great reward for a life well lived.

    Blessings to all.
    Bev & Bill
