LAVERY, Alice Eliza (nee Holmes)

July 29, 1929 – Calgary, Alberta
February 28, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta

Alice was born in Calgary at the General Hospital July 29, 1929 to George and Essia Mae (nee Herron) Holmes.

Alice lived in Calgary, Rocky Mountain House, Bellevue, Cranbrook, and Creston, BC. She graduated from Creston Valley High School and upon graduation moved to Calgary, where she took a bookkeeping course and worked at two dairies in Calgary before meeting Ron. They married November 18, 1950 and had three children Rhonda (Tim), Gregg (Leslie), and Dann (Deb). Alice loved to travel, curl and golf. She travelled across Canada, the US, Europe (twice), Hawaii (three times), Cuba (twice), Australia, Costa Rica, and took two Caribbean Cruises. Alice loved boats! She was an avid curler in her day and won the Senior Ladies City and Provincial Championship in Calgary and Alberta. She often commented that if there had been a Senior Canadian Championship at that time they would have given them a run for their money. Alice was one of the founding members in 1979 of the Glamorgan Gals Golf and she was still golfing and anticipating the new season. She could still hold a pretty good golf club in her hands. She was a member of Woodcliff United Church where she sang in the choir for over 30 years. She loved to sing, to knit, volunteer both through the church and on a personal level. She also enjoyed spending time with family, playing bridge, doing puzzles, games and reading. Alice was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Alice was much loved by and loved her eight grandchildren and their spouses Ryan, Robyn (Chris), Deanne (Bryce), Shonna (Mark), Jenna (David), Vanessa, Andrew (Sandra), and Heather (Garrett). The delights and loves of her life were her three great-grandchildren Lucas Maxwell, Quinn Deborah, Cullen Alistaire, and was eagerly anticipating the birth of great-grandchild number four. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years Ronald Raymond Lavery on November 25, 1993.

A Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W.) on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Alice Lavery, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
