LAU, Frank York Foo

November 2, 1933 – Taishan, China
April 4, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Frank Lau, husband of Sue May Lau (nee Louie) of Calgary, AB, passed away in Calgary on Saturday, April 4, 2015 with his family by his side at the age of 81 years.

Frank was born in 1933 in Taishan, China. He moved to Hong Kong in 1951 and after a brief stay immigrated to Canada in 1954.
Frank and Sue May operated Lido Cafe in Calgary’s Kensington district for 25 years, from 1966 until 1991. Frank was well liked by his staff and Lido’s many regular customers, who enjoyed Frank’s cooking and warm personality. He worked long hours, but treasured stat holidays when he closed Lido for a day and took the family to Banff for a dip in the hot springs, to McMahon Stadium to watch the Stamps or to Corral Drive-In Theatre for Dusk Till Dawn.

Many of Frank’s relatives live in San Francisco and he thought of them often. He made several trips there to visit his parents, brothers, half-siblings and their families. Providing for his family was the focus of Frank’s life. He took great pride in his family and was a devoted husband, father and doting granddad.

Frank is lovingly remembered by his wife Sue May; sons and daughter-in-laws Manuel and Lucinda, and Michael and Wendy, daughter and son-in-law Laura and Vince; grandchildren Jonathan, Brayden, Callum, and Juliana; and step-grandchildren Tyler and Cole.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
