LANGFORD, Colin John

LANGFORD, Colin John
March 17, 1935 – Kent, England
January 2, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Colin John Langford, of Gillingham, Kent, England, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 81 years.

As a young man, at the age of seventeen, Colin became a Seaman with the Merchant Navy in 1952 in England. He was with the Navy and moved up the ranks to a Third Mate in 1958. That year Colin came to Canada and pursued a position with Minister of Transport. Colin’s love of travel, adventure and the ocean directed him into a career that would span across all borders of the world and rest at all ports. He would be away for months on end and one thing he never forgot was a special occasion. His children and family would always receive telegrams, flowers, letters and packages on all special occasions. He never missed a date.

Colin made many, many wonderful friends along the way and his company, Maritime Technical Services, provided him the opportunity to work with offshore drilling companies; Nordco, Amoco and Beaudrill, just to name a few.

Colin loved his family and was a true and loyal friend. He participated in many charitable organizations and associations that had a worth while meaning. Colin loved watching all sports; there was nothing like a great soccer game.

Colin is survived by his son, Philip Langford of Calgary; daughter, Kathleen Gebhardt (nee Langford) of Winnipeg, MB; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline Langford-Misener and Robert Misener of Calgary; sister, Phyllis Standen of Kent, England; grandchildren, Dylan Langford and Damon Misener of Calgary.

A special thank you to the Alberta Health Services Senior North Team of Bonnah Siemens and Unit #36 at the Foothills Medical Centre for their loving care and support of our Dad.

Special thoughts I found on a note my Dad was writing:
Love, Life, Twists & Turns,
I guess that’s what it’s all about.
I’ll be alright tonight, I have your word on that.
Goodnight.

A private ceremony will be held for family and friends, information can be provided by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Colin Langford, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
