December 8, 1916 – London, England
November 23, 2017 – Airdrie, Alberta

Irene Laing, our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at the age of 100 years.

Born December 8th, 1916, in Kentish Town, London, England, during the First World War she immigrated to Calgary in 1924 with her widowed mother and three sisters. Eventually, she met dad and they enjoyed many happy years together.

Mom was faithful in all she did in her quiet ways. She was a woman of a deep faith whose message, in one way or another to all she knew was simple, follow Jesus. She lived in anticipation of the day she would come face to face with the Savior who loved her best. For mom, that day has come.

Irene was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Reverend Bill Laing. Mom is survived by her eight children, Marjorie (Bev) Foster, Roland (Pamela) Laing, Barbara (Mark) Brosseau, Murray (Leslie) Laing, Sheila (Dave) Hunt, Roger (Carol) Laing, Brenda (Ivan) Ortlieb, Barry (Laurie) Laing; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Our entire family acknowledges with gratitude our loving, generous and godly heritage.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Your mother was one of the sweetest souls I knew she prayed so many prayers for me over the yearsShe also was a great friend to my Mother Eleanor Reeve . However it is sad for her family but I know how much she loved the Lord Jesus so I know she is with Him and that her faith has now been realized.

As everyone else will testify, Irene was a wonderful person. I enjoyed times of praying with her and she prayed for us as we served in Colombia with Wycliffe. I loved her and appreciated her very much/

To the Laing Family: Marjorie and Bev, Rolly and Pam, Barbara and Mark, Murray and Leslie, Sheila and Dave, Roger and Carol, Barry and Laurie and Brenda and Ivan, and families.
We feel so fortunate to have known Irene. What a wonderful inspiration and example she was in her Christian faith, in her service at church as a pastor’s wife, and as a mother of eight children. She faithfully attended church every Sunday until health and distance intervened. We always looked for her in her favourite pew and noticed her lovely hats and outfits! It was our pleasure to chat with her and give and receive warm hugs before she left, after the service. How wonderful it was to visit with her again at her 100th birthday party, and to see her welcoming smile. We will remember her with great fondness.
Our loving condolences to all of you as you grieve. May God bless and keep you and grant you peace, as your warm memories give you comfort and smiles.

  8. Harvey and Ina Doyle :

We appreciated Irene’s diligence and faithfulness in the Bible (” God’s word”) which she regularly read . . and taught to Sunday School children (including ours),
After she became a widow, she often rode to church with us – almost always ready to go (whatever the weather!)
As a godly woman of faith she served her Lord by serving others. Though a small lady, she added strength to those she touched in her long and productive life. Her passing leaves a large void that younger women may fill as they emulate her life. She rests with her Lord.
She will be missed but not forgotten.
Her life of godliness lives on in the lives of those she touched and ministered to. We too were recipients of her service and commitment.
May the God of all comfort grant peace and His rest to each family member as you remember Irene in the unique relationship she had with each of you.
