My heart is broken knowing I won’t see you again. Jenn, you were such an amazing friend, even though we were miles apart. You came home when I needed you most and whipped my ass back into shape. You were full of life, funny, caring and just a genuinely amazing person. You made university the best time ever and we had the most fun. I’m so happy I got to spend time with you in June, it means the world to me. I’ll miss your short jokes and random texts of how short I was. I love you friend, I’m going to try and live my life as full of life as you did. Rest easy. ❤️❤️ My condolences to the family and friends of Jenn, and anyone’s life she touched.

  11. I am so sorry for your great loss. Jennifer was my student in her recreation degree and I’ll never forget her. We take trail names in HKR 2545 and suffice to say “JB” Jenn is an unforgettable student/grad/alumni who graced this earth for far too short a time. She was light, she was laughter, she was a master of using humour to pave the highway of obstacles. All who knew her have a piece of their hearts missing. My thoughts go out to her near and dears.

To Jenn’s family – beloved “Red” and George, beautiful Char (and family), and kindest Doyle (and Claire), and of course fur family Kevin – we are heartbroken over your loss. Jenn was a wonderful daughter, sister and friend.

Jenn and I were instant friends from the moment we first met back in 2007. We laughed a lot, and got each other’s crazy sense of humour. When she headed off to school to find her passion she was so awesome about keeping in touch, and even after she moved out west every time she was back in Nova Scotia for Christmas or for other family visits she made time to see me, and then when Michael and I got together, to see the both of us. It’s just the remarkable kind of friend she was.

When Michael and I got married in 2016 she wasn’t able to make it here for the big day, but you better believe when she did make it back to Nova Scotia she was all about going out for tacos and beers to celebrate. It was one of the best times. We drank Coronas in the sunshine and laughed a ton.

Beautiful, funny, wonderful, kind, generous, fiercely loyal, and deeply passionate about her work and epilepsy awareness (PURPLE POWER FOREVER). She was all these things, and so, so much more. We will miss her terribly and grieve with you all during this time.

Sending all of our love from Nova Scotia, Kirsten & Michael xo.

  17. I had the pleasure of interviewing and hiring Jenn as a recreation therapist for The Alex. My condolences to her family. Though I’ve only knew her for the last 6 months she left an incredible impression on me and many of the staff. Not a day went by that she didn’t make me laugh and smile. Jenn was so approachable and generous with her time. One great memory was during her interview she brought me and her supervisor a coffee. I asked her if this was her sucking up to us…she said yes. Hahaha we knew immediately after her interview to hire her. Was a great decision. She will be missed.

I was absolutely heartbroken when I heard the news about Jenn. I have gotten to know Jenn in the last six months through work and enjoyed her presence enormously. Jenn has touched so many lives including mine. I was inspired by her great qualities she possessed. Jenn was extremely intelligent, humble, friendly and hilarious. In the last six months of knowing her, I never had a single negative experience with her. It was nothing but positive and inspirational experience which is beyond human capacity.
Jenn’s desk at work was five feet away from mine and I had conversation with her everyday. The hardest thing for me now is to pass by her desk and not see her, her smile, sense of humor and warm conversation. I miss you a lot Jenn. Thank you for being you and the greatest time you gave me at work in the last few months.
My condolence to your family and others who have been impacted by this tragedy.
    Love

Sending my condolences to Jenn’s family and friends. I’ve known Jenn for the past six years through our recreation therapy careers here in Calgary. We’ve had many laughs and good times at conferences and symposiums. I’m going to miss her random texts that made me burst out in laughter. She was one of the funniest gals that I’ve ever met, and she lit up any room she entered. I wish I hadn’t kept turning down her invitations to spin class (even though it was a joke because she knew I hated them), so that I would have had more time with her. Rest well my friend, hope we meet again one day.

  38. Jenn was my roommate in second year at MUN, and my dear friend for many years thereafter. She was a remarkable, witty, magnetic person — beautiful inside and out, deeply loyal to those she loved, disarming in her sense of humour, and in that particular blend of toughness and vulnerability that made her who she was.

Jenn: thank you for taking an awkward girl from Ontario under your wing a decade ago, for being my east coast family, for always making me feel as though I belonged. Thank you for long hear-to-hearts at Corte Real while we did our laundry, for study dates at the lib, for talking me through the ups and downs of early adulthood, for believing in me even when I didn’t, for always making the effort.

Thank you for the privilege of being your friend. You were a part of one of the happiest, most memorable and formative parts of my life, and I’ll cherish forever to the vision of you that lives in my heart: the beautiful girl in the black dress, young and smiling and happy and infinite.

  43. Angela Loucks-Atkinson :

Dear Lahey Family: I was one of Jennifer’s professors at Memorial (she called me Dr. LA). All my students leave footprints on my heart, but some students leave an impression. She had a laugh I will always remember and a spirit I will never forget. I was one of her life mentors while at university. I watched her grow and learn and develop into a confident young woman. In our community development class in 2010, Jennifer was a class leader of a proposal to develop a university community garden. The garden started in 2011 and still continues thanks to the her work and this class. I am sure this is just one example of the seeds Jenn has planted that will continue to grow. She told me that we, the recreation faculty at Memorial affected her life – but what she didn’t know is that she influenced our lives and reminded us why we wanted to be professors and teachers of this profession in the first place. My sincere condolences to you and all her family and friends. I will remember Jenn always.

I feel like I watched you all grow through his eyes, stories. How proud he is of all of you and how Anne remained as the constant in his life. Because of this and being a parent of my own the heartbreak you no doubt feel with the loss of Jenn is unimaginable. So my heart aches for all of you. There are no words. The one thing I know from all George (your Dad) spoke of over 18 years was how close you all were and I pray that will bring some strength, love and comfort that you have had together over the years. “What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget”

I was so sorry to hear this devastating news about Jenn. I attended Sacred Heart with Jenn for six years, and she infused our class with humour, energy, and a sense silliness we all appreciated. Some of my fondest memories are of studying for French, Math and Spanish tests with Jenn; she always made everything more fun. She had a gorgeous smile, an infectious laugh and sparkling eyes. She was one of the students in our class who was able to float between the different social groups because she had so many close friends. I admired that quality in her a lot. More recently I loved reading her stories on Social Media about her interactions with seniors at work. It was obvious she excelled at her job and that it suited her vibrant personality.

  56. Dearest Lahey Clan,

I’m heartbroken for you, your family and for all of us who have had the pleasure of knowing your beautiful daughter & sister – we’ve lost one of the brightest lights. I’ve attempted to write this a few times now but can’t quite seem to put into words how much I’ve loved and appreciated having “J-Lo” in my life since our time together at SHSH. I was a painfully shy 11 year-old when we first met & instantly her warm & vivacious personality put me completely at ease & we became quick friends. Throughout our time at SHSH & at Dal, Jenn was like the sister I never had & I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her & your incredibly fun & loving family on Rutledge.

We both ended up moving away from the Maritimes which unfortunately made our times together in the same place/same time, short and far between. I connected with Jenn just a few weeks ago to let her know that I’d be moving back to NS & that I was looking forward to the potential of us seeing other more often than what we had. Despite our physical distance, Jenn was always the best at making sure we were still connected & always wanted to be in the know with my life…or more specifically my love life (she would have made the best host for the Bachelorette Canada).

Her beautiful smile, compassion, comedic personality (who needed to go to the gym when you’d get an ab work out just from being around her?) & generosity will be greatly missed. I’ve realized this past week just how many friends Jenn had & yet she made sure each and every one of us felt special, valued & deserving of her time & love – what a wonderful & selfless trait!

J-Lo it was a privilege to have you as my friend – your love, light & laughter will be truly missed but I’m thankful for the memories I have in my heart. ~Mello~

My sincere condolences to your family during this difficult time – I’m thinking of you all. xx

  73. I was so shocked to hear at Jenn’s passing. She was such a warm and beautiful person, and I feel privileged to have known her through several years at Sacred Heart. Most recently we had reconnected over a shared love of fitness, despite living on opposite sides of the country. I will absolutely miss her sense of humour and loving heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during such a difficult time.

  80. Heather Tomlinson :

    Dear Char, and family,

I am so very shocked and sorry about the loss of Jenn. I had the pleasure of working with her a few years ago, and she was a very bright spot in my work day. Her quick wit, and her passion for her work as a recreation therapist were very inspiring. She brought much needed levity to the work day, and her sensitive heart was evident, underneath all of that wit. We shared many a good laugh, and she was very appreciated by all of us who had the privilege of working with her. It is very difficult for me to believe that she is gone, and my heart goes out to all of you in your loss. Please know that your family remains in my thoughts and prayers.

With my condolences, and fond memories of Jenn,

    -Heather Tomlinson
