Irene Ruth Kutney passed away on September 15 after a brief hospital stay.
Irene was born in Miami, Florida in 1923. Irene’s father, Joseph Brown, was a Mormon elder. In 1944, Irene married Edward Gatewood Trueblood, an American career diplomate. They lived in Lima, Peru, Asuncion, Paraguay, Santiago de Chile, Montevideo, Uruguay, Paris, France, and lastly in Vancouver. After Edward Trueblood’s and Irene’s divorce in 1960, Irene stayed on in Vancouver. In 1961 Irene married William S Brooks of West Vancouver, in Palm Springs, CA. This was the beginning of Irene’s wintering in the California desert. William S Brooks died in 1966 on a return trip from Acapulco, Mexico. Peter Ray Kutney of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Irene met in Vancouver while Peter R. Kutney was on business. Peter was a chemical engineer and was CEO of Coseka Resources and Wharf Resources. They spent the next thirty years together, working, entertaining, travelling around the world and spending quality time with family until his untimely death in September, 2006.
Irene leaves behind two daughters, Sandra Roberts lately of Calgary and Palm Desert, Cynthia Trueblood of Mexico, and a step-son Peter Douglas Kutney of Burnaby; two grandchildren, Philip Montoya of New Mexico, and Morgan McCloud of California; four greatgrandchildren, Hannah Irene Montoya of NY, Lena Montoya of New Mexico, Zander McCloud of California and Marbella Montoya of New Mexico.
Irene will be remembered for her youthfulness, exuberance, fun and generosity towards all. She will be missed.
