October 24, 1934 – Wayne, Alberta
December 14, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Jack beloved husband of the late Ocksana Kuryk (nee Guta) of Calgary, AB, passed away on December 14, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Our beloved dad was born and raised in the Drumheller valley. He worked the coal mines as a teen and played goal for the Drumheller Miners. After meeting the love of his life, our mom “Baba”, they sought out a better life and moved to Calgary where he joined the Calgary Police Force. He enjoyed every minute of his thirty years service and was always ready to share many of his “war stories” from those days as a cop. Dad was very proud of his life as a policeman and the brotherhood and friendships that it brought him. He had a generous spirit and enduring love for his whole family.

Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Ocksana and daughter Roxanne Tremblay. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Kelle, Brian and Heather, Barry and Sherrie; his daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Paul; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At dad’s request, there will be a private family gathering, at a later date, to celebrate his life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of John Kuryk, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence from Cst. J Ancelet on January 8th, 2018 9:12 AM

As a police officer I had the honour of meeting Retired Detective Kuryk (Jack) a few time in his final year responding to his calls for service. Reminding him of his wife’s passing each time was sad, but we spent a lot of time talking about the “job” and his years spent as a police officer. We even shared a few laughs.
My sincerest condolences.
