May 2, 1943 – Brno, Czech Republic
July 2, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta

Jan Kucera, beloved husband of Zdena of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the age of 73 years.

Jan was born and grew up in Brno, Czech Republic with his mother and brother. He enjoyed many interests and hobbies including theater actor, hang gliding, windsurfing, and breeding award winning Airedale Terriers.

The Communist regime did not let him study architecture at first, so he was forced to attend trade school and then military service. Later on he was accepted by the University of Brno to study architecture, and graduated with honors. After arriving to Calgary in 1981 he was involved as an architect in many high profile projects such as Calgary City Hall and the Olympic Oval.

Jan loved adventure and travel, which he pursued to his last days. His
biggest passion was skiing and he passed this passion to his two sons.

Jan is survived by his wife, Zdena; and his two sons, John and James. Jan was predeceased by his parents Jan and Lida Kucera.

We thank you for your condolences.
The Kucera Family.

Oh Zdena, John and James and Lauren,
John and I felt so lucky to have had the fun time with your Husband
and Dad at the wedding. He seemed pretty serious, but with a hige
twinkle in his eye and it was obvious he loved his family very much.
We are very saddened for you all.
