KNUDSEN, Allen Peter

September 10, 1922 – Aarhus, Denmark
November 9, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Allen Peter Knudsen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the age of 96 years from complications due to renal failure.

Biography: Allen grew up in Central Denmark with his 2 brothers in traditional circumstances with home, school, and summer work and vacations until the start of the Second World War. He then worked with family and friends in the Danish Underground, where he met his future wife, Grethe. The family left Denmark for Canada in the late 1950s, first moving to Vancouver, and then Calgary. He worked with several oil companies, spent nights in school getting his CPA and was at the forefront of computers and accounting in the oil industry. He took an early retirement at 55 but returned to the field he loved until the age of 86. He quit smoking at 50, began running, and ran road races and marathons until his late 60s. He spent his last years living with his oldest son, reading, watching soccer, and enjoying his grand children and great grand children. He was a testament to the adage that age is just a number.

Allen is survived by Ken, Michael, Kim and Jytte.

Allen was predeceased by his wife Grethe Lydia.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Condolence Messages

  1. My father was singularly the most generous person I’ve ever known with every resource he’s ever possessed. Including his home ,his time , his love& compassion, and his wisdom & encouragement . As well as an endless well of smiles and laughter that he shared not just with us, but every man, woman & child , I ever saw him meet!.I really will miss making him laugh…And I regret arguing with him about his week cell phone coverage…Rest well in Valhalla my oldest & best friend.
