KILBRIDE, Mary Patricia Sara

April 2, 1934 – Vancouver, British Columbia
June 20, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Pat on June 20, 2019 at the age of 85 years.

Pat was born in Vancouver, BC, on April 2, 1934. The youngest of four daughters of Ethel (Law) and Frank Kilbride, she grew up in Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon. We all heard many stories over the years from her interesting childhood.

Married to Bill Myers for 26 years and the mother of four children, she lived mostly in Alberta and Colorado, returning to Alberta in later life. Grandmother to nine, and great-grandmother to four, Pat had an easy rapport with children and followed with interest all the developments in her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives. Her grandchildren remember her fondness for books and for reading to them.

Pat attended UBC as a young woman and was proud to finish her education degree in Colorado. She taught in the Head Start program in Colorado and then taught English to newcomers in Calgary.

She enjoyed adventurous travel in her later years, including raft trips on the Nahanni River with sister Shirley and on the Tatshenshini River, as well as train trips through China, Russia and southern Africa.

Pat will be remembered for her independent spirit, her keen interest in the world, her storytelling abilities, and her resilience. She was a devoted listener to CBC radio, following the news closely. She is also being remembered by many relatives and friends for her kindness, open-mindedness, and intelligence.

She will be missed.

Pat is survived by her children, Leslie Myers (Frank Rackow) of Calgary, Alberta, Douglas (Dedra) Myers of Water Valley, Alberta, Jeffrey (Julie) Myers of Snowmass, Colorado, Jane (Mark) Burke of Hollis, New Hampshire; grandchildren Hannah (Jeremy), Benjamin, Brittany (Chad), Kaylee (Shane), Braden, Nicole, Hayden, Mackenzie and Cameron; great-grandchildren Rowyn, Levi, Riley and Colton. She is also survived by her sister Shirley (Bill) Conkie and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pat was predeceased by her sisters Joan Tripp and Fran MacDougall.

Memorial Service to be held Saturday, June 29, 1: 00 p.m., at Water Valley Community Hall (5209 Highway 579, Water Valley, AB).

Memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank Society, 5000 – 11 Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2Y5 Telephone: (403) 253-2059, www.calgaryfoodbank.ca or Aventa https://aventa.org/donations/. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com .

We were so saddened to hear about Jane’s mom. I remember meeting her at a Cushing/NAPS/Boulder wedding day. She was a remarkable woman as evidenced by the stellar daughter and talented grandchildren she’s helped to raise. Take good care, and may her fond memories comfort you at this time of grief.
