KIBBLEWHITE, Kathleen (Kaye) Mae (née Headman)

April 18, 1944 – Eston, Saskatchewan
February 1, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Kaye Kibblewhite of Calgary passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the age of 74 years.

Kaye/Sis/Mum/Grandma/Appa was a woman who defies easy description. She wore many hats throughout her busy, happy, full life, first as a daughter and sister growing up in Lacadena, SK and then as a young woman studying at NAIT in Edmonton. She became a lab technologist and then added being a wife and mother. For the second half of her life, she was a grandmother and a strong, independent woman as she transitioned into a second career in insurance with State Farm/Desjardins Insurance in Calgary. She didn’t bother adding retiree to the list because she didn’t want to stay home and be bored.

Kaye was a fan of many things such as: her family (first and foremost), her friends, her co-workers, her Bunko Babes, her customers, and her dog, Bailey. We can also add to her fan list: anything DIY (she could MacGyver just about anything), gardening indoors and out, crafting and holding craft nights, woodworking, pallets, sewing, reading, dancing (especially to 80’s hits), London and the Royals, romantic comedies (especially Notting Hill and Love, Actually), anything on the BBC (Fawlty Towers and Father Brown), HGTV, hot food, ice cold water, a sweet treat right after supper, white wine, using butter knives as screwdrivers, wearing sandals year around, having her nails and toes done (although you’d have to chip off the paint, dirt or drywall mud first), getting her hair done, sun tanning, charity shops (thrift stores for the non-Anglophiles), holidaying in Mexico & Phoenix, going to and volunteering at her beloved Carefree Resort, the farm, kickboxing (she had a mean right hook), playing games and cards (she’d drop anything to play Canasta, Euchre or Troika with her family), adopting you into the family (there was always a seat or bed for you if you needed one), and she was a fan of the good people at Tom Baker and the Foothills Hospital.

Things she was NOT a fan of: Cancer (obviously), fools, lying, poor grammar, intolerance, socks, closing cabinet doors, cleaning, keeping pens, looking for screwdrivers, jumping jacks, spicy food, and leaving us all behind.

Kaye is survived by three children, Jody Johnston (Patrick), Andrea Roberts (Mark), and Jason Kibblewhite (Thao); the father of her children, Ted Kibblewhite (Gail); six grandchildren, Dylan, Katie, Liam, Ethan, Madison and Laya; two sisters, Janet Edmundson and Bettie Markowsky (Lawrence); and nieces and nephews, Cory, Veronica, Sam, Bernadette, and Michael.

A private Celebration of Life will be held April 20, 2019. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Kaye’s name may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1(866)412-4222, www.albertacancer.ca/memorial.

In living memory of Kaye Kibblewhite, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th STREET SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.

In 1974, when I was 16, pregnant and unwed, Kaye and Ted took me into their home, and I enjoyed babysitting Jody, Andrea and Jason during the weekdays. I have some comforting memories of those times. Last night, while I was watching Call the Midwives on the BBC station–which I too enjoy, I was reminded of Kaye, of her strength and kindness and thought to go online and look her up. I was saddened to hear of her passing. My deepest condolences to you all.
