May 28, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
Martin (Marty) Denis Kennedy, beloved husband of Eileen Kennedy (nee O’Toole) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the age of 71 years.
Marty was born in Ottawa, ON on June 19, 1947. He married Eileen on December 22, 1972 and moved to Calgary, AB in 1974. He attended the University of Calgary and studied business management. Marty worked for the federal government for twenty two years in the taxation department. After leaving the government, he became a school bus driver. He loved driving the kids to and from school every day and spending time with them. Before retiring, he moved up in the company and spent much of his time training new drivers. Marty had a passion for soccer. He coached both Michael and Christine through their childhood. He started Cascade Soccer Club with Michael, which he ran for many years. He also had a passion for motorcycles and began riding again in his sixties. He really enjoyed riding his Honda 750, and had great trips with his motorcycle buddies. Marty enjoyed travelling and spent time visiting the Isle of Man, France, China and Hawaii but his most memorable trip was a driving trip with Eileen along the west coast of BC and Oregon. Marty was always trying to be funny and make light of any situation. This continued until his final days, even though he was sick in the hospital he still tried his best to make a joke of his situation with the nurses and doctors.
Besides his loving wife Eileen, Marty is survived by his son Michael and his daughter Christine; and his four beautiful granddaughters, Brooklyn, Ella, Briar, and Brielle whom he loved dearly. Marty is also survived by his sister Maggie Pagotto, and his brother John Kennedy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
