KARY, David Wallace

February 13, 1929 – Hemaruka, Alberta
August 11, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Our rhinestone cowboy, father and grandfather, David died suddenly on Saturday August 11, 2018 at the age of 89 years.

David’s passing was peaceful and he is now survived by daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Brian Hein; son Desmond and daughter-in-law Rose Marie and grandson Sean; daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Murray Martin and grandson Isaac; and son Michael. David is also survived by two sisters and their families; Ruth Hughes-Adams of Duncan, BC, and Muriel Lee of Red Deer, AB.

David grew up in the rural area of Hemaruka/Veteran, AB and was the only son of Joseph and Amelia (nee Michael), who both immigrated to Canada via Russia, and Europe/US in the early 1900’s. David worked various labour and farming jobs in Alberta and California in his younger years and moved to Calgary in 1965 where he met his wife Agnes (June) McGowan and they were married in 1967. They were together for twenty-five years and had four children and two grandchildren. David was a self-made man and worked in the Calgary Real Estate market for many years. He was a successful entrepreneur and owned a new home building company. David was an avid traveller and made many trips to the continental US, and a favourite spot of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He was passionate about country dancing and could routinely be seen dancing up a storm at Ranchman’s Dancehall. David was a kind-hearted soul and was loved deeply by his family, friends and his caregivers.

There will not be a formal memorial service at this time as the family will be holding a private tribute service for David in September. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

The family sincerely wants to thank the nursing, care and support staff at AgeCare Glenmore for their compassionate service over the last four and a half years.

In living memory of David Kary, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Marlene Feser :

    Sheila and family,
Your dad was a kind-hearted man who brightened a room when he smiled. He was quiet but so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. I could tell that he would have been a very fun person in his younger years and diligent at whatever he put his mind to.
It was an honour to know him in his final years. He was a special soul and he will be missed.

  2. David was my cousin. My parents, Henry and Emilea Kary often spoke of the enjoyable visits with David and June. The “Kary” “Carter” cousins would meet for lunch prior to Christmas for a number of years. We are sorry for your loss and extend our sympathies to the family.

sincerely, Fred and Selma Nudd (Kary)
