Marika Kametler of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the age of 83 years.

Marika was born in Ercsi, Hungary on May 27, 1935 to Joseph and Maria Kazsoky. She was the oldest of four sisters, Marika, Kathy, Rosa and Elizabeth. She met and later married Imre Kametler on September 20th, 1956 and immediately immigrated to Calgary, AB where they started a new life together and a new family.

She had an amazing talent for sewing petit-point canvas’ that are more pieces of art than just a hobby. She loved Hungarian music and she loved to dance. She had an amazing personality, a great sense of humour, was intelligent and sophisticated. She was fiercely loyal and took great pride in her family.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Savoy, grandson James Savoy, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Karoly Muller; brother-in-law Erno Kametler and his family; niece Erika Ladouceur, great-nieces, Renee and Vanessa Ladouceur; her nephew and his wife Joseph and Iiona Dvorszky; cousins, Patko family, Magdalena, Paul, Michelle and Kaylaand numerous first, second and third cousins in Hungary.

She was predeceased by her husband Imre Kametler on September 20, 2012.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Hungarian Catholic Church (819 13 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through
