KALYN, Patrice Anna

September 18, 1946 – Regina, Saskatchewan
November 28, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Patrice Kalyn, beloved wife of Allan Kalyn of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the age of 72 years.

Patrice received a B.Ed. in drama at the University of Calgary. Patrice married Allan Kalyn on December 28, 1981. She was an accomplished woman with a diverse career: drama teacher in High School and Junior High 1969 – 1981, personal life coach consultant, 1981 – 1997, a corporate trainer with Veritas DGC, 1997 – 2007 and Devon Energy, 2008-2009. After she retired in 2009, she joined Allan in writing pursuits and they did workshops and seminars together. They pitched in Corte Madera and New York. She got some good nods in New York. She wrote several novels which she was developing for a series and was in the process of attempting to market them when she was taken away by terminal cancer, much too early in life. Patrice was an intellectual and a creative artist. She also loved to express her physicality. Her biggest passion was dancing. Her favorite sport was skiing. She said she felt most alive when she was on her skies. She liked going fast. She introduced Allan to and taught him how to ski. Patrice sang with Johnny Thorson and Nickleodeon, made puppets with a friend and bundle blankets. Her shining moment occurred in New York in 2016 when she and her husband were invited by a musician of some celebrity to a jazz club for a workshop of aspiring artists. She was in the company of the best in New York. Patrice sang and the musician conducting the workshop said, “You don’t need a workshop lady, you need a gig.” Words from an accomplished artist in New York substantiated Patrice’s talent for singing which she knew she had, but was modest about it. She never chose singing as a career for her own reasons.

Patrice is survived by her younger brother, Jack (Iris) and her husband, Allan.

Patrice is predeceased by her parents, Clifford Vernon Lord, Anna Theresa Lord (nee Materi) and her older brother, Jeorge Lord.
