February 20, 1923 –Enchant, Alberta
May 9, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Stella Jacobson passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the age of 96 years.

After several years of struggling with dementia and physical infirmities, she finally succumbed to her frailty and collapsed into the waiting arms of Jesus. We know that her Savior’s embrace brought rest and comfort to her and all who loved and cared for her.

Stella was born on a farm near Granum, Alberta where she lived until she graduated from grade 12 and left to pursue her training to become a teacher. While teaching school in Okotoks, Alberta, she met a handsome soldier returning home from his WWII service in England. They decided to attend Prairie Bible Institute together and subsequently got married in 1951. Stella continued to teach elementary school for many years with the Calgary Board of Education. She also used her talent to teach Sunday school at the Evangelical Covenant Church and then First Alliance Church for many rewarding years.

Her favorite students were her daughter Patty and her son Lorne, whom she loved and served generously. After Patty’s tragic death in 1981, Stella finally found joy again when she got to lavish her love and care upon her granddaughter Elyse and grandson Tyler.

Stella lost her loving husband Herb after sixty-one years of marriage in 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents, Anton and Dagnie Lind; sister Dorothy Taylor; brother Dr. John Lind and various brothers and sisters-in–law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom she loved and will be delighted to see again in Heaven.

Stella will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son Lorne (Kristi) Jacobson; grandchildren Elyse (Doug) Van Spronsen; Tyler (Alexandria) Jacobson; great-granddaughter Perrin Van Spronsen and by her sister Judy Van Dellan and her sister-in-law Rene Lind.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Auburn Heights Retirement Residence who looked after Mom when she could no longer look after herself.

A private Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 16th. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

If friends so desire, donations to honour a life well lived may be made to Prairie Bible Institute [1], P.O. Box 4000, Three Hills, AB T0M 2N0.

In living memory of Stella Jacobson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

My heart was so saddened when I saw Stella’s obituary! She was a real treasure and I am so thankful for the years I have known her. Although I will miss her precious smile, I am happy for her because I know how much she longed to go home to be with the Lord and with her beloved Herb and Patty. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family!

Moving to Calgary I became a part of the Ladies Afternoon Prayer Group at First and so appreciated the quiet ,gentle way in which Stella so quickly made me feel ” at home”
I will cherish the memories of sweet afternoons spent , listening to wisdom shared.
Today I often find myself passing on insights I gained during our conversations.
We as a group and I personally extend our sincere condolences to your family.
As I will be at Praire Bible college in June for what Teach Beyond calls a
“Celebration of the Past ” I feel it very appropriate to honour the memory of your Mom with a donation made at that time.

Lorne and Kristi,
This has brought so many memories of your wonderful mother. She was my Sunday school teacher, a generous hostess to my family for many delicious dinners and the mother of one of my close friends. She had many gifts and was always gracious and welcoming. My sympathy on your loss and and gratitude for her life and the legacy she has left.
