ILLINGWORTH, Robert Arthur

August 31, 1932 – Melfort, Saskatchewan
February 25, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

On February 25th, 2018 our dear brother and uncle Robert Illingworth passed away to be reunited with his love Susie.

Bob was born in Melfort, SK on August 31, 1932. He spoke of many jobs over the years in the Grocery industry. He started as a meat cutter and then many years later retired as a marketing executive for Calgary Co-op. He embraced all that his jobs brought to him and the technology that went with it.

His wonderful sense of humour and easy going nature was what made him so loved by his family. He loved to make us laugh and we never knew what he would do next. Besides playing golf with Susie, he loved puttering in his flower beds. His flowers were his pride and joy. He so looked forward to his winter trips to Maui and then Arizona. Getting away from our harsh winters and enjoying the sun and golf were his perfect way of spending the cold winter months.

For over the last year he was truly blessed with a very special friend, Rita. Without her kindness and compassion Bob’s last months with us would not have been so full of life and laughter. She brought out the very best in Bob and we are forever grateful to have had her in his life and ours. Thank you Rita!

Bob spent his last months in a wonderful long term care home, Newport Harbour. He was just starting to adjust to his new surroundings when he passed away. They proved to be so gentle, compassionate and kind. So a special thank you to all the staff at Newport Harbour.

He is survived by his brothers, Jim (Jose) of Regina, Doug of Kelowna, Don (Donna) of Regina; sisters-in-law, Pauline of Woodstock and Evelyn of Saskatoon; and brother-in-law Hugh Welch. As well, left to cherish his memory are his many, many nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Susan Illingworth; as well by his parents Alfred and Anne Illingworth; his brothers Ken and Graham; his sister Phyllis; sister-in-law Geraldine; and two nephews Richard and Kim.

A Memorial will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB), on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through

  1. Platon Werbicky :

It is of great sadness that I read of Bob’s passing. I first met Bob in the mid seventies when he worked for FCL Saskatoon and I at FCL Calgary. We dealt with each other at FCL and Calgary Coop and will always remember the fond statements he made. Bob did not judge individuals by title but as people and I will forever remember him.
