IANTKOW, Louis (Lou)

October 15, 1925 – Wayne, Alberta
August 8, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Lou Iantkow of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

Lou graduated from the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art with a diploma in building construction. He was a Corporal with RCAF Service Police from March 1944 to October 1946 and then he worked for Alberta Paint and Glass, Pilkington Glass and Art Fishman Interior Design.

When his wife lost her sight he helped her make revolutionary changes not just for her but for many blind people across Canada. He was a very generous man and was a blood donor for over fifty years. He volunteered with the Calgary Chinook Lions Club from 1960 – 2003 and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #285.

In his youth Lou had a fascination with Aviation which led to his great respect for the RCAF Military Branch. He was an artistic painter and a naturalist and he loved the great outdoors. He loved biophysical design, incorporating local natural environments in to his designs. Up to the night he passed away Lou was still striving to improve designs. He always loved a challenge.

Lou loved to spend time with family some of his most memorable vacations were spent in Penticton and Vancouver Island with his friends and family.

He will be most remembered for being a consummate environmental designer and his pocket doors.

Lou is survived by his two sons, Brent (Debra) and Mark; his grandchild Tyler and his two great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Ella Iantkow (nee Best) in 2014; son Kim; his parents, Rose and Steve Iantkow; brother Eli Iantkow and sister Olga Montpetite. He was also predeceased by a son that passed from a premature birth.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek Hospitality Centre, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch #285, 9202 Horton Rd SW, Calgary, AB T2V 2X4,

The family would like to thank the close community of neighbours, organizations such as the CNIB and his long-time family physicians Dr. Ibberson and Dr. Pow.
