HUTCHINSON, Madelin Patricia Jane (nee Owens)

September 7, 1933 – Toronto, Ontario
December 12, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Our Mom, Madelin Hutchinson of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the age of 85 years.

Throughout her life, Madelin was a dedicated and supportive daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her roots can be traced back to the Coull family farm in Quebec, established through the King James land grant on the Gaspe Peninsula in 1766. It was there that she would spend her summers as a child, giving her a lifetime of rich memories. Mom grew up in the Beaches area of Toronto, ON, where she would eventually meet the love of her life at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club, our father Ronald Hutchinson. They married in 1953 and enjoyed a wonderful life together that spanned moves from Toronto, ON, to Peterborough, ON, and eventually Regina, SK. After Dad’s passing, Mom relocated to Cochrane, AB, where she could be closer to her daughter Sandy, who provided exceptional support and care throughout her final years. Mom enjoyed the Toronto, Peterborough, and Regina curling communities. In Toronto, she was a member of the famed Eight Enders Club. In Regina, Mom received the Royal Canadian Humane Association Award for assisting in the rescue of a person from drowning in 1981. In Cochrane, Mom was a volunteer with the Food Bank and Humane Society. She loved dogs and cats, and both were present in her life until just a few years ago.

She leaves to mourn her children, Sandy (Paul), Patricia, David (Carole), and Robert. She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren Alex, Amelia, Natalie, and Kyle Duncan, Ayden, Tomson, and Matricia Hutchinson, and Noel (Candice) and Stephanie Johnson. Mom will also be missed by her great-grandson Samuel Johnson.

The family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Cochrane Humane Society, 62 Griffin Industrial Pointe, Cochrane, AB, T4C 0A3, Telephone: (403) 932-2072, www.cochranehumane.ca. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Madelin Hutchinson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE, AB, T4C 2E2, Telephone: 403-932-4740.

  3. Deepest sympathies for the loss of your Mom.
I am so glad that she is no longer suffering but, selfishly, sad I didn’t get to see her one last time.

  4. I’m so very sorry to hear of Madelin’s passing. I curled with Madelin in Regina for several years. She was a lovely lady, always smiling and fun to be with. She often talked about her family and it was evident she had a great deal of love for all of you. I remember her saying that the grandkids called her the walking gramma. She made me look forward to becoming a gramma myself. My deepest condolences for your loss.
