HUMMEL, Herbert Karl

October 8, 1926- Marzianowo, Ukraine
May 19, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Herb Hummel on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the age of 91.

Our beloved father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and cherished friend was married to Melvina for forty years. Herb was born in Marzianonwo Ukraine, learned five languages and struggled through the difficult times of WWII. He immigrated  to Canada in 1951 where he farmed for years in the Coronation and Calgary areas. He worked as a journeyman carpenter, and then computer operator for Pan Canadian. Herb will be remembered for his love of family, tenacious spirit and work ethic, willingness to help anyone in need, and love of adventure. While he will be missed, we know he is in God’s hands, as he was throughout his life.

He is survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Herb was predeceased by his first wife, Brigitta, mother of Barbara (Brad) Ford, Richard (Maureen) Hummel, Peter (Manon) Hummel, and Reinhard (Lill) Hummel. Herb was an amazing and loving step-father to Doug (Edie) Hill, Caron (Bob) Redgate and Dennice (Lonny) Petersen.

A Memorial Service will be held at Calgary Central Seventh Day Adventist Church (1920 – 13th Avenue NW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with a light lunch to follow.
