Shirley Hughes beloved wife of George Hughes of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Shirley was born in Drumheller, AB on July 29, 1929. She graduated from the Holy Cross School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Shirley loved to travel, spending time after graduating to visit the world far and wide. Shirley married George Hughes on June 6, 1959. She will be most remembered for her eagerness to lend an ear and her charitable spirit. Shirley touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
Shirley is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Colleen Hughes and husband Neville Silvera, and Joanne Hughes; sons, Gregory Hughes, Francis Hughes and wife Myla Morrison; grandchildren, Jenese, Bignel, Christopher, and Jessica; and her great-grandchildren, Nyah, Camela, Dontae, and Mia. Shirley is also survived by her loving sister Phyllis Primrose, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her adoring husband George Hughes.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
