HUGHES, Douglas (Doug) Franklyn

August 24, 1927 – April 15, 2018

Douglas Hughes of Calgary, passed away April 15, 2018 at age 90. Doug grew up in Mayerthorpe, Alta. He graduated from the Montana School of Mines and University of Kansas as a petroleum engineer and retired from Shell Canada after 27 years of service. A 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Doug rode with the Al Azhar Shriners Mounted Patrol.  He is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of 61 years; children, Lorene, Sharon (Hughes-Geekie) and Colin; grandchildren, Alyson and Davis Hughes-Geekie; brother Stanley (Ella), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by parents David and Alice, and brothers Lloyd and Leslie.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Anglican Church, 2828 – 19th St. NW.

    Our sincere condolences to Margaret and the Hughes family on Doug’s passing. Doug was a good neighbour. When we started the Block Watch Program in our neighbourhood in the 1980’s, Doug and Margaret got involved as block captains and were active participants in the program to prevent and reduce crime in the area. Doug was a stalwart person always.
