HORNBY, Olive “Muriel”

February 1, 1928 – High River, Alberta
January 31, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Muriel Hornby announce her peaceful passing at Clifton Manor in Calgary on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

Muriel was born in High River, Alberta and grew up on a farm in Cayley, Alberta. She was a huge supporter of the Renfrew Community Association, where she bought her first house with her husband George, and lived there for over 50 years. Muriel enjoyed knitting and attending her sons sporting events where quite often she was called upon to be scorekeeper and/or statistician. She loved to travel and especially loved cruising on Holland America Line. Muriel was a quiet woman whose shy smile won the hearts of people she met. She will be missed.

She is survived by her oldest son, Ron (Lea); her only daughter, Marge Labelle; and her youngest son, Doug (Deb); 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

Muriel was predeceased by her sister, Margery Boswell in 1944; her father, Frank Boswell in 1955; her mother, Mary Boswell in 1984; her son, Frank in 2006; and her loving husband of 71 1/2 years, George.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through
