HOLT, (Ronald) Peter

January 29, 1942 – Market Harborough, England
February 22, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Holt at the age of 77 years on Friday, February 22, 2019.

Peter was born on January 29, 1942 in Market Harborough, England to parents Arthur and Mary Holt. Peter immigrated to Canada as a small boy of five years of age, and lived his whole life in Calgary. He moved into the Renfrew area during his teen years and became an active member in the community. During this time he met the love of his life, Linda Jackson. After dating for several years they were married on July 2, 1966. Peter worked at the Calgary stock yards with Bud Parslow and Stan Denoon, and then became a self-employed garbologist following the passing of his father. His business serviced clients in the downtown area, and then expanded to include Springbank, Bearspaw, and Chestermere. By the time of retirement he had over one thousand clients. Peter was an active volunteer at the Renfrew Community Association for his entire adult life. He coached baseball prior to 1966, was a board member, and worked side by side with his wife and daughters for the bingo at the hall for several decades.

Peter is survived by Linda, his loving wife of fifty-two years; daughters Shannon (Allan), Twila (Peter), and Tammy; thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry and Danny; sisters-in-law, Sharon and Laura; and many nieces and nephews.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mary Holt; son, Jason; brother, Timothy; brothers-in-law, Mark, Mike, and David; and sister-in-law Kathi.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

  2. Writing this, there is no way I can put into words the sorrow I feel for the loss of Peter. I will always remember all the stories he had relating to his work, the history of Calgary, or just relating to his life. He loved anything to do with history, especially pertaining to Calgary. My heart goes out to his family at this terrible time of loss, but always take comfort in the fact that Peter left a lasting impression on all those he met.

  7. I am very sorry to hear the bad news. Peter was a good man and always had kind words and great advice. He also treated my Grandmother very good and was always there when she needed help. I remember the last time I spoke with him, we had a heart to heart that stuck with me to this day. Even when I was a little guy, he treated me well. I know he was good Dad and Husband and friend. He worked hard to provide and did. I’m going to do my best to pay my respects on Thursday, I only wish it could be under better circumstances.

  8. Linda and family; My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Peter was a one of a kind, I had alot of respect for the family man and husband he was, not many of those around. We shared a few good laughs back in the day, while riding around in the old coupe. Take care,
    Lynn Pratt

  9. I was reading through the obituaries and recognized the name “Peter Holt”. He picked up our garbage 14 years ago off Country Hills Blvd. NE. We had two baby boys back then and lots of diaper garbage bags! Peter always showed up like clockwork and loaded all those bags into his truck. Thank you Peter for all your hard work! You were always so cheerful and kind. God bless your soul with eternal happiness in heaven! Our deepest sympathy to Peter’s family. Trust in the Lord that you will see him again. ❀
