HOLMGREN, Harold Norman

September 17, 1920 – Estevan, SK
March 17, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Norman passed away on March 17, 2015 at the age of 94 years while residing at the Bow Crest Care Centre.

Norman was born and raised in Estevan Saskatchewan. Norman served with the Calgary Highlanders in WWII from his enlistment on June 15, 1940, being promoted to the position of Lieutenant in 1943, until he was wounded on October 6, 1944. Norman and his family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1965, returning to Calgary in 1975. He held many different jobs including owning an Esso service station, being a salesman, a parts manager and a truck driver, but his favourite job was bookkeeping, in which he excelled. He enjoyed watching curling, hockey and football, road trips, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. He loved music, both listening and singing with his beautiful bass voice. He was a devoted member of The Church of Christ and served as an elder for many years. The loves of his life were his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, his wife, Nefia, his 7 children and numerous grand and great-grand children. Norm took great pride in his entire family, both immediate and extended.

Norman is survived by his children Wayne (Joyce) Holmgren of Calgary, AB, Sharon (Barry) Peterson of Houston, TX, Ruth Ferdinand of Medicine Hat, AB, Rhea (Larry) Buckingham of Calgary, AB, Ramon (Trish) Holmgren of Calgary, AB, and Rhandi (Eric) Tyssen of Calgary, AB; his grandchildren Jodie (Geoffrey) Rubel, Julie (Gilbert) Ludwig, Kristin (Kevin) Hinks, Jeffrey (Tara) Holmgren, Jason (Leigh-Ann) Holmgren, Steven (Heather) Peterson, Melanie (Ryan) Shandruk, Tyler (Kristie) Buckingham, Jenifer (Christopher) Neil, Rebecca (Devin) Tyssen-Ayotte, Kelsey (Scott) Clarke, Jocelyn (Guiller) Contreras, Christopher Tyssen and Lee Holmgren; great-grandchildren Andrew, Hillary and Lillian Rubel; Katherine, Phoebe and Maya Ludwig; Abigail, Samuel, Aubrey and Ainsley Holmgren; Sophia, Eliza, Allegra and Kai Holmgren; Megan and Olivia Hinks; Hadley, Laynee and Charley Peterson; Riley and Carter Shandruk; Brodie and Austin Buckingham; Brayden and Ryder Neil. He is also survived by his sister Ruby (Don) Alexander and his brother Lowell (Ruth) Holmgren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nefia Eleanor, both his parents, Peter and Eleanor, his baby daughter in 1958, his son Rhys Holmgren in 1976, his grandchild John Ray Holmgren in 1984 and his brothers Clifford (Ruth) and Millard (Mabel).

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Thursday, March 26, 2015 @ 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
