August 17, 1951 – Vancouver, British Columbia
July 3, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
It’s with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Phyllis Hirose (nee Kook), after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was a greatly loved mother, sister, grandmother, auntie and great-auntie.
Phyllis was born in Vancouver, BC to Jim and May Kook. Phyllis grew up and graduated high school in Outlook, SK and then moved to Calgary after finishing her course at the Robertson Secretarial College in Saskatoon. Phyllis’ greatest joy was her enormous family, but her true love was her grandkids. She looked forward to the weekend sleepovers so the kids could wake her up super early by jumping on the bed. It would not be uncommon to see her on the floor playing games with the kids, or having family movie night and playing Nerf gun wars. She was so proud of her son and grandkids and would let anyone know. Phyllis was a very social person and enjoyed meeting new people, sharing her stories and was very interested in hearing other people’s stories. Phyllis was dedicated and a hard worker in any job she had, from property management to an independent mortgage broker.
Phyllis is survived by her son Paul Pinel, his wife Jenna (Kletke), her three precious grandchildren, Lincoln, Cooper and Piper; her six siblings, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Kari Liana, her parents, Jim and May Kook and her niece Riana Mae.
Her spirit and contagious laugh will be greatly missed.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to your choice of charitable organization. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com. We would like to thank the incredible staff in the Rapid Access Unit at the South Health Campus for the love and care of Phyllis and her family, as well as the amazing staff at Sarcee Hospice for their care and compassion.
In living memory of Phyllis Hirose, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th STREET SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.Print This Obituary & Condolences
