HILL, Orah Kathrine (nee Liland)

March 16, 1942 – Grande Prairie, Alberta
April 30, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

On a beautiful spring day, April 30, 2018, Orah Kathrine Hill (nee Liland), peacefully took her last breath on Earth and entered heaven and met her saviour. She was surrounded by her loving husband of fifty-six years, Alan Hill, and the four Hill girls. Orah was deeply loved by her family and all those who met her appreciated her kind and gentle spirit. She will be greatly missed.

Orah was born on March 16, 1942 in Grande Prairie and grew up on the family farm a short distance away near LaGlace in Northern Alberta. She grew up surrounded by a loving extended family who had immigrated to Canada from Norway. Her Norwegian heritage was always an important part of her life. She met the love of her life, Alan, in Grande Prairie after a church youth event, and they married on June 16, 1962 at Bethel Pentecostal Church adjacent to her family farm. Orah and Alan lived in Saskatoon and Edmonton before they finally settled in Calgary where they raised their four girls.

For innumerable years, she was a valued volunteer at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital where she could be seen manning the Tuck Shop, often with one of her girls. Additionally, her work as part of the Finance Committee utilized her impeccable bookkeeping acumen. Orah also was active in her church and several choirs were blessed by her beautiful alto voice. For many years, she served as the church secretary at Southview Church.

Before MS took away her mobility, she was actively involved with the West Winds Curling Club where she served as president and admirably represented the club in numerous bonspiels. After retirement, Alan and Orah were members of the High River Golf and Country Club and frequently travelled the Southern states, playing many courses throughout North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

Orah is survived by her husband Alan; four daughters and their spouses, Gayle and Bernie Moore of Calgary, Sharon and Todd Kendall of Edmonton, Lois and Al Aeckersberg of Kelowna, Diane and Murray Clift of Houston; and her grandchildren, Sarah Moore and Mark Moore of Calgary, Erik and Jordan Moore of Burnaby, Tatiana, Caisa, and Zoey Clift of Houston; great-grandson Ayden Clift of Houston; two brothers Bertel and Lorraine Liland and Donald and Linda Liland, both of Sexsmith, AB; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Brynjulf and Lillian Liland of Sexsmith, AB.

Funeral Services will be held at Southview Church (20200 Walden Boulevard S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Orah Hill, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
