HÉROUX, Julien J., P.Eng.

July 14, 1927 – Shawinigan, Québec
March 26, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with loving thoughts and fond memories that we announce the death of Julien, loving husband and best friend of Angela for 63 years, and deeply beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Julien was born in Shawinigan (Québec) on July 14, 1927 and was a graduate of McGill University (B.Eng. Mech. ’55). He was a member of l’Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec and was granted a life membership in APEGA in 1994.

A man of integrity and gentleness, he was blessed with a sense of humour like his father before him. He believed in strong families and happy children and that the loveliest laugh of all is that of a child. Children and grandchildren were cherished and were made to feel important. Julien’s many hobbies included oil painting (10 years with Brushstrokes in Calgary, for which he received awards), pottery, woodworking, hiking and cross-country skiing.

<< Le meilleur papa au monde>> will be forever missed by his five daughters and one son: Lynne (Tom Stewart); Diane (Marty Quinlan); Sylvie Héroux; Julie (Leo Parth); Brigitte (Paul Tinevez); Frédéric Héroux. Fifteen grandchildren are also left to celebrate his life: Tiffanie (Steve) and Cortney (Ezra); Kate (Ryan) and Natalie; Matthew and Andy; Douglas, Steven, Stephanie and Gregory; Justin, Benjamin, Samuel and Noah; and Isabella. He was blessed with a great-grandson, Wyatt Bateman. He leaves behind a legacy of love and precious, life-long memories.

Julien is survived by two brothers and a sister who reside in Québec: Pauline (Maurice LeClair); René (Louise); Denis (Lucille) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Jacques (Denise) in 2006; Pierre in 2014 and his sister Madeleine (Aimé) in 2009. Julien is also survived by sisters-in-law Olga McCormack (Eamonn 2001) and Ginette Piccinin (Aldo 2013) who admired him greatly and by their children who loved him.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church hall. Interment will take place in the ancestral cemetery at Saint-Boniface-de-Shawinigan (281 – 325 Boulevard Trudel O., Saint-Boniface, QC, G0X 2L0) on Saturday, April 20, 2019. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Condolence Messages

  1. God Bless you Julien, I’ll always remember the very moment I walked into Angela’s and your home when I was 17 years old many, many years ago, that I’m in a home full of Love, Respect, Faith, Structure and genuine happiness and I said to myself; I want a home just like this for my family, should that day ever come.
Well as we all know that day did come and I am blessed to be married to one of your beautiful daughters Diane, and together we have raised two wonderful daughters and created a loving and caring home too, inspired by you.
God Bless you Grandpapa and thank you for everything, I am so fortunate and blessed to be part of the Heroux Family.
You will live forever in our hearts.
    Marty

  10. I was introduced to the Heroux family through Freddie, Julie and Brigitte when we were all at the University of Alberta – much of my University memories were family dinners and the happy chaos during dinner at the picnic table. I refer to my own daughter as Chum or Chummy which we all probably know where that came from. From all the Yadav’s god bless – our fond memories will remain.

  11. I will forever remember my Grand-papa as a kind-hearted, loving, playful and funny man. He was always very family-oriented and he would spend quality time with his family whenever he had the chance. I will always remember his inventive and creative mind. He was meticulous in the design and construction of his projects from woodworking jobs to pottery creations; they were always carefully thought out and planned. My grand-papa was always a wise old owl — he knew just what to say to console an upset grandchild and he would give the warmest heartfelt hugs. My fondest memory of my grand-papa is: whenever I’d give him a loving kiss on the cheek, he’d playfully remind me that he had TWO cheeks, pointing to his other side that also needed a kiss. He was always a sweet and loving man and I will forever cherish my memories with him❤️

  12. Jim and Patricia Martin

    Dear Angela and family:
Julien was a class act. He was a role model for our brother, Marty, because Julien is the only father that Marty, ever knew. We remember Julien at his 50th wedding anniversary as such a happy, humble, kind and fun loving man who showed his love unconditionally.
A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.
All the love that Julien created is still there. All the memories are still there. Julien lives on in the hearts of everyone he has touched and nurtured while he was here. Death ends a life, not a relationship.
Julien will be missed but never forgotten.
May God Bless all of your family now and forever.
