HEAL, Kathleen Jean (nee Simper)

May 21, 1939 – Calgary, Alberta
March 27, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Kathleen Jean Heal, beloved wife of Garry Heal of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Born and raised in Calgary, Kathy (Kaye) loved her city; the culture, arts and, of course, shopping. She was involved in various programs; helping out with the Calgary Census and STATS Canada for several years. She was also on the Calgary Olympics committee from start to finish. She then worked for Norton Rose Fulbright (McLeod Dixon) as a receptionist until her retirement. Kathy and Garry loved to travel; road trips, cruises, and holidays in Spain and Greece. She loved to explore and experience everything she could when in a new location. She loved to paint and being in the company of fellow artists. She often travelled with her sister Karen to painting workshops in western Canada and the US, as well, she attended local art classes. Her paintings were often of children and her works had a soft and romantic feel about them; anyone who has one of her pieces is lucky because she let very few be sold. Kathy was an active member of the Cochrane Art Club for 22 years along with the Foothills Art Club and most recently the Beaupre Artist Guild (BAG’s). Kathy was warm, gentle, kind and loved to laugh. She had a smile for everyone, especially children. Even as her dementia progressed, Kathy’s true nature was always there, and her smile would light up the room. She is already missed by those who loved her and whose lives she touched over the years.

Besides her loving husband, Garry, Kathleen is survived by her children, Cindy Lou (Ray), Cheryl (Brad) & Cody; her beloved grandchildren, Karlee and Greg; and great-grand children, Jorden and Scarlet. She leaves behind her sisters, Dorothy and Karen; and brothers, Bob and Tom; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents and granddaughter Alecia.

We would like to share a thank you for all your prayers and support at this sad time. We also thank the staff at Bethany Care, Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

In living memory of Kathleen Heal, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB, T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

And yes, her smile lit up a room, her disposition was youthful, and her attitude so very kindhearted. Please remember me to your dad, Karen, and others of your extended family. Much love to you all! I worked with Kathy for many years while at Macleod Dixon, and then Norton Rose. She was the receptionist on the floor I worked on for many, many years. She always greeted me with a smile and a kind word. My condolences to her family.
