HAZLE, Arthur Louis

November 26, 1925 – Saskatchewan
April 14, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Arthur Hazle passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 with his daughter Brenda at his side.

Arthur is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Phyllis. He is also survived by his son, Craig (Valerie), and daughters, Susan and Brenda (Brian). He was predeceased by his son, Scott, son-in-law Dave Lemmon, and his brother, Sidney (who passed away Feb 6th). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin (Blair), Colleen (Nic), Allan (Amber), Karin, Christopher, and Kennedy; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Adora, Kayla, Milo, and Alice; and also leaves behind his daughters-of-the-heart, Rachelle and Deb Adie.

Arthur was the youngest of nine children, all of whom are welcoming his arrival in Heaven. He married Phyllis in Regina in 1952. They had Craig and Scott while still in Saskatchewan. After moving to Calgary, Susan and Brenda joined the family. Art spent most of his career working in the oilpatch, in the drilling mud business. In 1974, he started his own company, Leaseway Corporation Ltd renting and selling trailers. His favourite past-time was reading about and interacting with the Military. Arthur was a Boy-Soldier who went through training in Canada while his five brothers saw service overseas, with all returning except his brother, Oliver. Arthur and his brother, Sidney, both settled in Calgary to raise their families. They shared a special brotherly bond that lasted all of Arthur’s life.

Arthur was a kind, giving and loving man who considered everyone a friend after the first introduction. Arthur was also a devoted dog lover. He considered our four-legged family members to be his particular companions. He was a long-time member of the Glenbow Lodge, the Al Azhar Shriners, and numerous other organizations.

The family is grateful to the many people who have helped Arthur (and wife, Phyllis) to have such excellent care as they transitioned from their home of sixty years to residing at Agecare Glenmore. Special thanks to Joanne M, as you were a gift to us, and we truly appreciated your loving care. Also thanks to the incredible staff at Agecare Glenmore.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Reception Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada (Calgary office 403-250-7090), which was a charity dear to Arthur’s heart, as his beloved sister, Joy, suffered from this affliction. Arthur will join his family in rest at the Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

In living memory of Arthur Hazle, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB, T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.

  5. Phyllis. please accept our heartfelt wishes for you and your family. The “Art” that I knew was a very selfless man, willing to help any for a good cause. My first Motor Corps bike was one he lent me, and when I burnt out an alternator in a parade, he insisted on paying for most of it, Such was the man. Martin & Lana Jones

  9. When I first started my practice in the early 1980s, Art was one of my first clients. I was pretty young and he was a true mentor to me. On many of our meetings at the yard, we would go and view the new trailers he had purchased or look at the old antique vehicles. We’d go to the office and he’d love to go through the old newspaper articles or his WWII memorabilia. He was definitely eclectic and I mean it in a complementary way. Who else would reconstruct the small abandoned village where he was born! Even when Art was getting on in years he would still come to he office to sign off the year end financials. I always enjoyed seeing him. I was Art’s accountant for over 35 years and I got to know all of the family very well. Phyllis, Brenda, Susan and Craig I offer my condolences. Art was a true gentleman and I will miss him.

  11. I first met Art through John Powell CA, as I work for John for almost twenty five years and Leaseway Corporation was one of my best clients. He was a very nice person to talk to and always had some interesting stories to tell. I worked with his daughter Brenda for many many years. My deepest condolences to his wife Phyllis and his family, as Art truly will be missed by everyone that knew him.
