August 15, 1928 – Innisfail, Alberta
July 17, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Mom was born in Innisfail, AB, oldest sibling to her two brothers, William (Bill) Attwell, deceased, and Robert (Bob) Attwell. Her parents predeceased her at a very young age, leaving her responsible for her brothers. She married our Dad, Harry Hawkins, November 1949, in Calgary, AB, with both accepting the huge challenge of raising a blended, ready-made family, including Bill and Bob, and Dad’s daughter, Patricia (Hawkins) Yurkoski. Mom and Dad enjoyed forty years of marriage, with Mom missing Dad every day of the twenty-five years she lived without him. They were blessed with two more daughters, Terry Lee (Richard) Parsons, and Laura Dawn, deceased, (Ken) Davis, three wonderful grandchildren, Melanie (Darryl) Guglielmin, Heather (Oscar) Cruz, and Troy Davis, as well as three adored great-grandchildren, Jacob and Brenna Guglielmin and Andoni Cruz. Bill’s wife Patsy, and Patricia’s husband, Ron predeceased her.

Mary was first and foremost, an extremely hard-working mother and homemaker. In later life, Mom enjoyed a rewarding career at T. Eaton Company for many years, followed by MacDonald Supply and Crown Stores. As our Mom, we all enjoyed her utmost support in all of our endeavours, both academic and recreational. As a grandmother, she was the consumate “Professional Grandma”, cheering all her grands on, as she was able. As GG, great-grandmother, no one could match her pride and interest. However, it was her unmitigated LOVE for all of her extended family, her friends and all of us that was remarkable. We all just KNEW that we were loved, unconditionally.

Mom passed peacefully at her home of over fifty years, as was her wish, surrounded by her family. We couldn’t have managed that without her amazing family’s support, and that of her incredible primary caregiver, Gisele, along with Phyllis and Connie, for whom we are eternally grateful. It takes a village to support an aging senior at home, and Mom had the BEST!

All who loved Mary, are invited to attend her formal graveside service, where she will join Dad at Queen’s Park Cemetery, Field of Honour Sec P – C7 on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 AM; followed by a “Celebratory Memorial Picnic” at 1:00 PM to share memories, laughter and birthday cake. Casual picnic dress is encouraged; please bring a chair and call Terry if you would like to join Mary’s family and friends so we might plan appropriately for food.

In lieu of flowers you are invited to donate to a personally meaningful charity of your choice, honouring Mary’s life. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Mary Hawkins, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB, T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
