April 9, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Dorothy Ann Hastings of Calgary, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2018 at the age of 94 years.

Dorothy Ann (Dode) Hastings (nee Walford) was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Gordon and Barbara Walford. She and her husband Ron Shirra raised their family in both Calgary and Regina where they cultivated many lasting friendships. Dode’s warmth, strength and genuine kindness left a mark on all she encountered, especially her family.

Grammie dearly loved her four grandchildren Laurinda Penner and husband John, Jill Jenkinson and husband Doug, Craig Shirra and wife Jessica and Mark Shirra. Dode was also blessed in knowing her five great-grandchildren, Elouise, Grace, Isla, Noah and Juliet. All who knew Dode will sorely miss the warmth and compassion she bestowed. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron Shirra, of 37 years, and their youngest son John David Shirra.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Revera McKenzie Towne Long Term Care, as they were always very helpful and gracious. Dode felt loved.

    Ann, Rob and families
We’re very sorry for your loss. Your mom was a very kind person to all who came through her door. We always liked hanging out with John and “Ma Shirra” in our high school and university days as she made you feel like one of her own.
