HART, Claire Charlene

January 26, 1938 – Georgetown, Ontario
December 4, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Claire Hart of Calgary, AB passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the age of 80 years.

Claire was a graduate of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute. Married husband David on September 12, 1959. She focused on raising her family and supporting her husband’s career. This involved living in numerous cities across Canada, ending with retirement at Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island. During her life she enjoyed lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons. She also volunteered for many charities, including the Canadian Cancer Society. Claire and David also enjoyed travelling to many countries over the years. Her greatest passion in life was art. She studied with several well-known artists as a young woman and in mid-life pursued her degree in Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan. After moving to Arbutus Ridge, she became very active in the community, including golfing with a wonderful group of ladies, quilting and performing in the local choir and helping with the annual Christmas shows, all the while continuing to pursue her interest in art. She was also involved in local charities such as sewing clothing for the Women’s Shelter. During this time, Claire and David happily welcomed their two grandchildren, Adam (1990) and Kelsey (1992) into their lives, whom they enjoyed spending time with and spoiling. Following 20 years on Vancouver Island, Claire and David decided to move to Calgary in 2016 to be closer to family.

Claire is survived by Sister Sandra Timleck, Son Warren Hart and Daughter-In-Law Diane Hart, Daughter Andrea Hart and Son-In-Law Arthur Chernick, Grandchildren, Adam Chernick and wife Shannon, and Kelsey Chernick.

Claire was predeceased by husband David, her sister Gretchen and brother Brock.

  2. Claire was a warmhearted unique person and I am so glad to have known her. My husband Hank and I spent many good times with her and Dave, starting in Toronto when Dave and I were classmates, and moving on to BC and Arizona where they wintered several years. Her creativity pervaded her life and I have a treasured picture in my home that she created of the mountains of Tucson. May she rest in peace .
My sincere condolences to the children and grandchildren.

    Warren, Andrea,and Sandra,
So very sorry to read of Claire’s passing. I went to high school with Claire and we became good friends. I knew all the Bradley family , and was always welcomed into their family when I visited their home. I haven’t been in contact with Claire in many years, but I have great memories of her……she was a wonderful sewer .
    Please accept my sympathy!

My dear friend Claire, death leaves a heartache no one can heal but leaves also a memory no one can steal. Your friendship was not a big thing but a million little things. You shall be greatly missed by all that were fortunate enough to have had you as a friend. Sincere Condolences to the Hart family.

  7. I was truly blessed when presented with the opportunity to meet Claire’s family and become one of her caregivers in Calgary from Dec 2016 until Aug 2017. I absolutely loved every minute I spent with her – we talked about everything under the sun, while enjoying many meals & coffees, spent hours working on puzzles and the enjoyment we both felt when we completed one only to start another as soon as we could, our drives to DQ for an ice cream cone and then into Fish Creek Park where we would sit in the sun and enjoy the moment! Every Monday we’d go and play Jeopardy in the theatre, stroll down to the Art Room where she totally encouraged my non-existent lack of artistic creativity, watched the golf channel as I loved golf as much as her ….. and the laughs we had about silly things! I felt such a kindred spirit towards this amazingly witty, sassy, warm, independent and kind hearted lady and I’ll treasure the memories I have of her always….. she embodied what I want to be when I reach those golden years! Sending all my love and condolences to Andrea and her family.
