September 6, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
Ronald Russell Hardy, age 86 of Calgary, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Ron was born on October 12, 1932 in Lindsay, Ontario to the late Hattie (nee Godwin) and Russell Hardy.
Ron was predeceased by his dear wife of sixty years Jane, whom he married on July 27, 1957. Together they raised their two children, whom he is survived by, Drue Robinson (nee Hardy), her husband, David, and their children, Kayla and Alyssa; and Jeff Hardy (Nancy Matthews). Ron was also predeceased by his sister Eileen Algar (Walter) and his brother Ralph Hardy (June). He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jim (Louise) Algar, Doug Algar, Vicky Hardy and Scott Hardy; as well as many loving family and friends.
Playing golf and fishing, as well living near the mountains were some of the things that made Ron the happiest. He was long-time member of the Willow Park Golf and Country Club and regularly went on fishing trips into the mountains with his best pals, where they brought along a good supply of beer and scotch. For several years after retirement in 1996, Ron and Jane would winter in Thousand Palms, California, socializing, playing golf and cards with their fellow snowbirds. He enjoyed the time he had in this life and made many friends wherever life brought him.
Ron commenced a career in business at an early age. His career involved working in a variety of financial service companies, as his life took him from Lindsay to St. Catherine’s, to Toronto, to Los Angeles, California, to Toronto and finally to Calgary where he lived for the past fifty-five years. Ron worked for more than twenty-five years at The Royal Bank of Canada in various capacities. Never resting on his laurels, his grit and determination allowed him to be promoted into senior management roles, eventually retiring in 1996 as the General Manager of Commercial Mortgages throughout the Province of Alberta. Ron was an active member in the community and served with the Braeside Community Association. After retiring he also volunteered at the local food bank and served on several Real Estate boards.
As per Ron’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service or celebration of life. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be directed to the Canadian Lung Association, or the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. In lieu of mourning or flowers, play a round of golf, have a beer or a scotch and maybe cast a line in a mountain stream in his memory – he would have liked that. Ron’s family would like to thank the nurses, staff and doctors at Carewest Royal Park for the care and compassion they provided Ron during his time there.
