HARDING, Helen “Margie” (nee Slaunwhite)

June 8, 1935 – Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
December 5, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Helen passed away peacefully at Providence Care Centre following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born and raised in Dartmouth, NS, later moving with her husband to his hometown of Lachine, QC. There she raised her family and worked for many years for the Hudson’s Bay Company. Helen was a gardener extraordinaire, and an avid reader and walker. Along with her husband, Ross, she enjoyed social activities at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 85/90.

Helen is survived by her children, Karen Jacques (Fred) of Calgary, Judith MacDonald (late Malcolm) of Cochrane, AB, and Joseph Harding (Lynda) of LaSalle, QC; seven grandchildren, Allison Miller (Rob), Ryan Jacques, Laura MacDonald (Darcy Suitor), all of Calgary, Jill MacDonald Selk (Tyler) of Cochrane, AB, Michael Pugiotto (Maryse Beauchesne) of Chateauguay, QC, and Victoria and Melissa Harding of LaSalle, QC. Over the past 10 years, Helen was thrilled to welcome seven great-grandchildren, Asher and Heath Miller; Everett, Zaia and Sylas Selk, and Olivia and Sofia Pugiotto. Helen leaves behind two sisters in Nova Scotia, Carol Wyllie (Ron Cosper) of Dartmouth and Janet Pettipas (Bob Dolan) of East Chezzetcook; and her sister-in-law, Judith Carriere (Gaston) of Pointe Claire, QC.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Ross Harding; her son-in-law, Malcolm (Mac) MacDonald; her parents, Gerald and Helen (Graham) Slaunwhite; and her siblings, Gwen Murphy, Jean Burns, Gerald (Sonny) Slaunwhite, Keith Slaunwhite, and Gayle Slaunwhite.

The family is grateful to the staff of Providence Care Centre who cared for Helen over the past 3 years with affection and compassion.

Cremation has taken place. Burial to follow at a later date at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Pointe Claire, Quebec.
