HANNAH, Joyce Elaine

May 29, 1934 – Calgary, Alberta
May 30, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Joyce Elaine Hannah, much loved Mother of Carolyn Curl and Nancy McDougall, passed away in Calgary on Wednesday May 30, 2018, one day following her 84th birthday.

We find comfort in knowing Mom is now at peace and with the Lord. Joyce was born in Calgary, AB and was the second child of Hugh and Elsie Hannah. Joyce lived her life in Calgary and worked for many years as a secretary at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Management. Mom was a woman ahead of her time, who loved her independence, camping alone in her Boler at age 83. She loved spending time in the mountains, having picnics and being outdoors. She was an avid animal lover, and a kind and compassionate person.

Joyce will be dearly missed by her daughters Carolyn (Gord) and Nancy; her grandchildren Alex, Chris (Steph), Lindsay and Ian; her great granddaughter Kenlee; as well as her nephews and niece. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Don.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Family Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through

The family would like to thank the staff of Southwood Hospice for their gentle care of Mom in her final days.

In living memory of Joyce Hannah, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  2. Joyce has been a bastion of common sense, a fountain of cheerfulness, and a source of strength and inspiration over the years. I will miss her cheery welcome at the campground, but I know she’ll be there in spirit at my campfire.

To Nancy, Carolyn and families, please accept my sincerest condolences.

  3. Nancy and Carolyn,
I am so saddened by the news of the passing of your mother, I went to CHHS with Joyce, she was my first girlfriend, first girl I ever held hands with, first kiss. The last time I saw Joyce was in Banff, many years ago, around 1973. It was with your father, Dale and you girls, you were very young at the time, and probably would not remember.
Please accept my very sincerest condolences.
