GROSS, Peter Joseph

February 15, 1935 – Lethbridge, Alberta
November 7, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Peter beloved husband of Donna Gross (nee Tiddy) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the age of 83 years.

Peter was born in Lethbridge, AB raised in Grassy Lake and was a formidable athlete through his school years. His post-secondary education was at the School of Mines in Butte, Montana (BSC 61, MSC 64) where he met his wife Donna with whom he shared fifty-seven loving years. After several years of career development in western Canada and the US he decided to call Calgary home, raise his four children and has been a prominent member of the oil and gas community for over fifty years. During this time, he was also a member of the Calgary Petroleum Club and fostered the development of many small oil and gas corporations and partnerships. Peter also had a strong passion for golf, had been a member at the Elks for over forty years. He was a frequent participant in the Oilmen’s Golf Tournament, several Catholic charity tournaments and even captured the ever-elusive Hole in One in Kananaskis in August 1994. “Papa Petey” was incredibly proud of his children and granddaughters and will continue to watch their development from on high.

Peter is survived by his loving wife Donna; children Brent (Lynda), Lori, Todd, and Dawn (Mike) Schurman; six granddaughters, Thea, Stephanie, Nicole, Hannah, Chloe and Hayden; brother Frank; and two sisters Lucille, and Agnes; and many extended family members.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Bethany Care Foundation – Level 8, #1001 – 17th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 2E5 Telephone: (403) 210-4600, email: bcf@bethanycare.com. The family would like to thank the staff at the Bethany Care Dementia unit who have lovingly cared for Peter and us over the last few difficult years as his condition progressed.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Drive N.W., corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
