GREIG, Sylvia Anne (nee Spivak)

February 14, 1961
July 28, 2019

Sylvia, beloved wife of John Greig, passed away at the tender age of 58.

Sylvia loved to travel to many destinations over her thirty-eight years of marriage to John, which included Hawaii, Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico and, most recently, Nova Scotia. Her favorite pastime was getting everyone together (friends and family) and going camping. She also loved to shop and was the best at finding new spices in the U.S. on the yearly trips with her sister.

She will be greatly missed as she had a wonderful sense of humor; she exuded bravery, courage and strength; she offered guidance and she had a heart of gold.

Sylvia was the loving mother of Amanda (Derek) LaGrandeur and Kayla (Brad); and grandmother of Marlee, Ryley, Braiden, Emma and a fifth grandchild, due in August 2019.

Sylvia is fondly remembered by her sister, Linda (Fred) Greig, and her extended in-law family: parents-in-law, Ken and Audrey Greig; and siblings-in-law, Rose Tillings (John Kowch), Heather (Rod) Day, Marlene (Roch) Lalonde, Jim (Lori) Greig and Ernie (Sally) Greig. She has numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Neil and Verna Spivak. Sylvia also has many friends whom she cherished and loved deeply.

As per Sylvia’s request, no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Chinook Hospice, 1261 Glenmore Trail S.W., Calgary, AB T2V 4Y8, Telephone: (403) 258-0040; Foothills Country Hospice, PO Box 274, 322001 32 Street, Okotoks, AB T1S 1A5, Telephone (403) 995-4673; or AARCS – Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society, 5060 74 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 3C9, Telephone: (403) 250-7377.

Words cannot express how eternally grateful the family is to the Chinook Care Centre Hospice staff and to Sylvia’s extended family and friends for all the love, care and support they have given.

In living memory of Sylvia Greig, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

I cannot tell how much I am going to miss you Sylvia. You are one in a million. You always had time to listen, to teach and to guide no matter if it was in our personal life or at work. You are a very special friend. I will treasure our 7 years at SysGen and will always remember the special times we had in event planning and getting everyone excited to attend. It was a privilege to be with you, to say goodby and to share with your family, all the treasured times we had with you. Go in peace my friend, may God carry you to the everlasting light. Love Cindy

    Sylvia & Family,
Life is truly unfair sometimes, Sylvia is far too young to be taken away from us, she was truly the kindest most thoughtful person and always looked out for others. A bright light has faded in our world but the heavens will shine brighter as she rises, Rest In Peace my dear friend! I love you! Cheryl

As many of you know my mom was an absolutely beautiful, smart, witty, yet sassy woman. I really don’t know how someone is supposed move on after losing their parent. That someone I confided in, called about 5 times a day to say hi, complain or tell you something really silly. I have already reached for my phone thinking to myself “I haven’t heard from you in a while”
Mom you will forever be the biggest part of me and who I am today. Thank you for being the best part of me, and my children.
Heaven truly gained a beautiful Angel!!!
I love you more than words could ever express. Farewell and I will see you later ♥️
