GREENWOOD, John (Jack) Richard

September 10, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

John (Jack) Greenwood passed in peace on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the age of 99 years.

On April 14, 1941, Jack enlisted in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and served in the first and second Regiments in Korea and Japan. He retired in 1965 with the rank of Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant, after twenty-five years of service. He moved to Winnipeg and worked for Coldstream Engineering Manufacturers of Refrigeration as Purchasing Agent for many years. In his spare time, Jack loved to garden, cook and, cross stitch. He spent his life helping others and worked tirelessly for the Poppy Fund. He is a long time member of The Royal Canadian Naval Association and The Royal Canadian Legion. He was named an honorary member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Jack is survived by his companion and loving partner June Burgoyne of Calgary; his grandchildren James Taylor of Winnipeg, MB, and David Taylor (Amber) of Okotoks, AB; great-grandchildren Zoe and Milo Taylor; and his sister Thelma Williams of Rimbey. Jack was predeceased by his wife Muriel Frances Greenwood; his daughter Pam Taylor; and his siblings Ella Gawne and William Greenwood.

Memorial Services will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Dr SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:00 am, with reception to follow. Graveside Service to follow at 2:00 p.m., at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary, AB).
