GRAY, Charles Richard

December 13, 1944 – Edmonton, Alberta
May 8, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Charles Richard (Dick) Gray of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the age of 73 years.

Dick was born December 13, 1944 in Edmonton, AB, but was quickly brought by his adoptive parents Jim and Hope Gray to Calgary. He attended Sunalta School and Western Canada High School and participated in Navy Cadets.

After high school, Dick joined the staff at the Calgary Albertan newspaper before moving to the Calgary Herald where he completed an apprenticeship as a printer and spent the next thirty one years excelling at his chosen trade while making life-long friends with his co-workers and enjoying the camaraderie of the composing room.

Dick married Angeline Dussault on May 24, 1969 and together they raised their children, Cindy-Anne, Karen and Doug. Their home in the Fairview district of Calgary became an important central location in the lives of many family members, friends and neighbours. Dick was proud of his family and enjoyed watching and supporting his children, and later his grandchildren, in their many activities.

When he wasn’t busy tending to his family or working, Dick was passionate about music and golf, and enjoyed a beer and socializing with his many friends. In recent years Dick and Angel spent their winters at their second home at Hemet, California where they developed an extended circle of good friends. Dick was well-loved by family and friends and he will be missed.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Angel; daughters Cindy-Anne (Garth) McCrady and Karen (Rod) Priest; son Doug (Jamie Dumont); and grandchildren Stephen (Crystal Wood), Matthew (Chelsea Forsyth) and Karissa Priest and Amanda-Lyn (Ryan) Olson and Sarah McCrady.
Also left to mourn are Dick’s brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Wendy Dussault, Elaine and Lambert Elder, Theresa Miller, Roy and Grace Dussault, Louis and Blanche Dussault, Darlene and Bev Soucess and Emily and Frank McTighe and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Dick was predeceased by his mother and father, Hope and Jim Gray, and by his mother and father-in-law, Catherine and Emile Dussault.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gray’s residence on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Dress casual. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
