GOODFELLOW, Millicent (nee Noseworthy)

May 15, 1920 – St. John’s, Newfoundland
May 30, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Mom chose to leave us in the springtime with sunny days and warm evenings. Days when lilacs are in bloom and the petals of the ornamental cherry trees are blazing pink, her favourite colour.

Millie has lived her entire adult life in Calgary, a city she loved. She was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, coming to find “the West” by train (alone) as our Dad was away at war. When she was at an age where she should have been putting her feet up, Millie found that she needed to go to work to keep the home fires burning. Mom worked for Chevron Canada for sixteen years. One day she decided she was going to learn to drive so she went to the dealership and bought her first car. Mom was sixty-five years old. She drove independently until the age of eighty-nine.

Millie was a member of Bow Cliff Seniors, Chevron Retirees, loved sewing, knitting, and oil painting. She was always happy and cheerful.

Mom was really “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. The children knew her as Nannie. Family and friends have been lucky to have had her as our own until Thursday, May 30, 2019. The world will not be as bright as it has been for the last ninety-nine years and two weeks. With all our love to you, Mom, we send you Peace in Heaven with love from your two daughters, two sons-in-law, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the family invite friends, family, and the amazing staff of McInnis and Holloway to join us for a light lunch in the Hospitality Centre. We would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Pontifex, Pastor John. R. Wiuff, and our talented musicians for the service honouring Millicent. Thank you Phil Newbigging for your loving care of our mom and our precious family. Special acknowledgement to Jason Schnell, Jeff Moss, Bruce Rempel, Kennedy Cardinal, and Darren Fielder for their gentle care of Nannie on her journey. Words cannot express our pleasure in Dr. Thomas Noseworthy for your kind, loving words telling us all of Mom’s amazing life. The family would also like to thank Dr. Sangar, the nurses and staff in the Shawnessy neighbourhood of the Beverly AgeCare Midnapore and the wonderful patient girls on the front desk who always helped Mom with phone calls. Mom, with all our love to you, we send you Peace in Heaven. Following the reception, Graveside Service will be held at Christ Church Cemetery, Millarville, AB. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Millicent Goodfellow, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
