Bill attended public school in Calgary. We were both saddened with the passing of our dear friend Bill Gillespie.
I first met Bill when we both worked together at Alberta Municipal Affairs in 1973. We became best friends, and that friendship continued over the next 45 years. I have many fond memories of times spent with Bill whether it was travelling through Europe in the mid 70’s , family get togethers or working on CPA conferences.
    He will be missed

  9. I worked with Bill from 1977-81 at Municipal Affairs. He became one of my closest friends at work. I joined the oil patch in 1981,and we unfortunately lost touch over the years. One of my fondest memories was watching the Eskimos play in -30 C with him in the late seventies. My deepest sympathy for his family on his passing.

  11. Dorothy and I have known Bill for 41 years. He was a great work colleague as well as a close friend. When we think of the things we have shared and the many happy times we have had with Bill and family we realize what a loss it is that those times will never happen again. We are so very sorry that we are unable to leave Courtenay to attend the funeral. To Pat in particular our sympathies. We will try to keep in touch even if it is only on an occasional basis.

  14. Dear Pat & Family
I was so sorry to see Bill had passed away. Although we had lost touch over the years, I always think of Bill as such a good guy. We met at U of C in our undergrad years, I was a young 20yr old and Bill was well into his 30’s I think, but we were both majoring in Geography and so we kept running into each other. When we were close to grad he told me he was going to the London School of Econ for his Masters. I was very impressed, Bill was a very smart guy, but he made friends easily and never put on airs. I really liked Bill. I suppose we might have had coffee once or twice, and I’m sure we worked together on projects, so I only knew him in an academic environment. I was so pleased to see what all he accomplished in his life, and was not surprised by it at all. Please know that Bill was respected and liked by all kinds of people, including his young undergrad fellow students.

We are so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful brother. Our memories of Bill are filled with his dry humour and all the fun we had together. He was a trusted friend and a great mentor in our student days.
