    Dear Sandy, Christine and Darrell,
I am so sorry for your great loss. Your mother was a gentle soul, full of life and belief in our goodness. She was a great friend of my mother’s, truly one of my mother’s longest and truest friends.
I am praying for your strength and that you feel the support of friends and loved ones as you come to realize the meaning of this loss for each of you.
I am sure that her spirit will live on in you and come to be known by you in new and treasured ways. But right now I send you love and care as you feel the hole she left behind.
I am watching the announcement. I hope not to miss it as I wish to be with you in celebrating her life, so beautifully lived,
    Mary Anne Schleinich

  3. Dear Sandy, Darrell & Christine,
I was so very, very saddened to lose such a good friend as your mom. She was very kind, generous and such a big heart. We had known each other since we were 16 years old and did our best to stay in touch over the years. She will be greatly missed and my sincerest, deepest sympathy to you all. Unfortunately, I will not be in Calgary for her service but have some very nice pictures from our high school years that I would like to share with the family.

  4. Dear Chris, Stephanie, Rachel, Jesse and Sandy too,
Our heart aches for you and your family during this time. Your mother was such an amazing person and she will truly be missed. We loved every meal we shared, her amazing cooking and dishes she shared, her kind words and hugs! You are a reflection of your mom (and grandmother) in the way you treat people with respect and empathy. Not to mention the way you make each person feel loved. We love you and are truly sorry for your loss. Prayers and hugs!

  6. Jim and Marcy Kennedy

    Dear Betty’s Family,
We were very sorry to learn of Betty’s passing. We met Betty in early 2017 when Mom (Rose Helbak) became her neighbour. During Mom’s 10 months, until her passing in December, 2017, Betty was such a kind, thoughtful and generous neighbour. Our Uncle (Andrew Verag) who new Betty professionally, became one of her meal time comparisons and they had an opportunity to rekindle their acquaintance until he passed. He always looked forward to meal time conversations with Betty and Bayla. Betty always seemed to be so kind to new folks in her unofficial role as “Community Ambassador” and for that our family will always be grateful.
    With sympathy,
    Marcy and Jim Kennedy

  8. Dear Chris, Sandy, Darrell.
I was very blessed to have known Betty for the past sixty-five years. She was a dear friend, a classmate, and one of the kindest persons I have ever known. In times of celebration, we laughed together, and when sorrows came , she was a very calm presence.
When speaking to Betty last…she told me how very proud she was of her family’s achievements. We will certainly miss Betty.
Sending Love, and Wishing you God’s Blessings. We’ll be thinking of you all on Thursday. ….Doreen, Fionn, Moira, Ginny, & Cindy.

I had the pleasure of working with Betty way back in 1979 or 1980 at Louise Riley Library. I am so sad that she has moved on to the next adventure. I had a wonderful visit with her at Florence Comstock’s funeral. Words to describe her are loyal, fun, smart, dedicated (now here she would stop me and say “Wanda, it sounds like you’re describing a dog!”). She was spunky, brash but not brazen, easy to be around, a true friend, great co-worker, faithful to friends and family and her God. I will miss her dreadfully. It was an honor to be part of her world. Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend her funeral service.

  13. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty and I worked together at Louise Riley Library, and I thought of her as one of the kindest and calmest people I have known. I know she will be deeply missed. She also had a connection with my husband, Geordie Facey, with whom she shared a common history in Vegreville. I cannot know your loss, but I know you will find comfort in her memory. My deepest condolences.

Dearest Sandra and family, Darrell and Christine,
Our deepest sympathy to all of you. What a shock, the loss of your beautiful mother and grandmother. They just don’t come much better than Betty.
We have known Betty and your family since 1969, the days in Dalhousie, through square dancing, guides, scouts and just being friends. In the latter years, I enjoyed being challenged playing bridge with her.
Betty had a great influence on our daughter, Michelle, though guides. She encouraged her leadership skills and often reminded us of how she would let Michelle take over the games, etc. at camp.
There really couldn’t be a more beautiful sole. We will all miss her, but we are so much richer, just knowing her. Her smile will live with us forever.
May God give you peace, and we know that through all her beautiful memories, she will continue to be with you.
Our prayers are with you. Again, our deepest condolences.
    Tom and Marg Murphy

  17. Condolences to Betty’s family, especially Chris through whom I was fortunate to become acquainted with Betty. From the simple northern communities where Betty got her start that I was connected with to the complexities of life for Betty in Calgary I was blessed to have some understanding of where it was at for her. As I can see by the people who submitted condolences she was a blessing for many.
