    Walter and family

We were saddened to learn of Shirley’s passing. She has been missed in the neighbourhood for several years and in some ways it must be a relief to you in not having to go to the care centre every day to visit her. We have been there and know how difficult it becomes to visit. She will be missed. With our deepest sympathy.

    Dear Uncle Walt and family,
We were all so sorry to hear that Aunt Shirley passed away. I will never forget your visit to (Kingston and Sydenham) Ontario when Aunt Shirley was researching family history. It was the last time my mom, Reta, saw her sister. Mom was so thrilled to see you all. The sisters were so close, even with the distance. My mom has missed Elaine and Shirley so much.
We often hear of the many adventures of the twins, and your family, and my mother’s memory of those younger days is still quite good.
Barabara…you have been amazing at keeping my mom up to date with your clever newsy Christmas letters every year and Mom cherishes those. She is going to miss her sister dreadfully.
Please let me tell you that last year, I showed her your picture of Shirley on my tablet (Shirley’s 90th). My mother’s hearing and eyesight is quite poor. She mistakenly thought she was talking to Shirley in real time on the computer. She broke down in tears as she had not had a chance to tell Shirley how sorry she was about the loss of Elaine. It took us by surprise and was very touching and revealed the depth of love for her sisters. She kissed the tablet to say goodbye to Shirley that day.
Sometimes we don’t know what she remembers in the present, but she definitely knows and remembers the loss of her siblings. So difficult to be the last of the seven children.
Our heartfelt condolences to you all, and I am sure my mother will be sending hugs, kisses and prayers to her much loved sister. No tablet required.

Love from Janet (Reta’s youngest in Sydenham)
