GIBSON, Christopher “Chris” Lee

August 21, 1972 – Ottawa, Ontario
October 18, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Chris Gibson of Calgary, AB, passed away on October 18, 2018 at the age of 46 years.

We mourn the sudden passing of a gentle, kind man with a free spirit. Chris’ unexpected passing due to health problems comes as a shock to all those who knew him, but we’re somewhat comforted knowing he had reached a place of happiness and contentment in his life. Enjoying his new home, meandering road trips on his motorcycle, skiing, visiting the cottage, spending time with family and fishing with his brother were all things that brought him joy.

Beloved father of Nathaniel and Kelcee Gibson, grandfather of Mason Gibson. Chris is the son of Pamela and James Waddell, of Fairmont, BC, and Colin and Debbie Gibson of Ottawa, ON.
He is survived by his brothers Glenn (Amanda), Douglas (Jamie Donaldson) Waddell and Drew, his sister Valerie (Joel) Knight. He was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews, Kaelan, Madeleine, Brennan and Liam Gibson, Brayden Waddell, and Connor Knight; and aunts and uncles from both families.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10:00a.m. Reception to follow. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  5. Julian Miranda :

I had the pleasure of working together with Chris for 1.5 years at Paramount Resources. I experienced Chris as a kind person whom is eager to help and and believes in having fun while at work. One-and-a-half years is a short time to get to know a person, but I can say that my time knowing Chris made an impression on my life. My sincerest condolences to Chris’ family, friends, and loved ones.

  7. Brendan Edwards :

I remember working with Chris quite some time ago for the Calgary Sun in their IT dept. It was a high-stress environment, with a general lack of support from outside our little team. I know Chris spent a fair bit of his time banging his head against the wall, metaphorically speaking… but at the same time he taught me a lot about how to make a small team perform heroic efforts, and how to get folks on the same page. The lessons I learned from him years ago, I carry on to my own mentoring opportunities now. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

  8. I am so deeply saddened to hear of Chris’ passing. I had the honor of managing Chris during his tenure at the Calgary Sun. He was a key part of a small team of system administrators in a very demanding IT environment. I could always look to Chris to resolve infrastructure issues and problems. He was the go-to guy that every IT environment needs. Beyond his IT skills, Chris was as wonderful person and I am fortunate to have had the pleasure to know him!
    My sincere condolences.

  9. The IT team (Former/Present) from Toronto Sun/Sunmedia/Quebecor would like to pass on our condolences to Chris’ family and friends. So saddened in hearing the passing of a former colleague. Although we were geographically separated by thousands of miles Chris was part of our Sun family, he was a Sun Brother. Chris was very talented at his trade and real asset to our organization. We will celebrate his life and share stories over a few drinks here in Toronto. We will fondly look back in time and toast a lost Brother.
    Sincere sympathy,
    Doug Smith -Toronto
