Condolence Messages

  1. Cory, Michael and Lewis

Condolences to each of you and your lovely families on Al’s passing.

He was held in high esteem by all his nephews and niece as it seemed he was almost more in our generation than that of our parents.

I know he was not the kind of guy who would not have had the patience to linger unnecessarily and, like most things he did in his life, he passed away on his own terms.

    Much love to all.

    Cousin Tommy

  5. Dear Cory, Michael and the rest of the Gelmon Family, most sincere condolences on the passing of your most amazing dad, who we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to a few times. I just learned of his IDF and Can. Armed Forces services: he’s a bigger mensch in our eyes than he already was. What an incredible legacy he leaves behind with his incredible sons and their children. His memory will always be in our hearts. It is a tragedy to lose this generation of valiant, hard-working, and truly Jewish souls your dad was so much a part of. We grieve with you. IF there’s anything we can do to support you at this time in any way at all, please let us know. Ed, Valerie, Jacob and Danica Sobel.

Marla and I have always felt nothing but warmth, admiration and a special place in our hearts for Uncle Al. He was a treasured uncle, a mentor to me in business, and a close friend to Marla, our sons, and their families. He not only gave you his full attention when in a crowd…but made you feel as if you were the only one who mattered. All of this was done with a twinkle in his eye and a sense of humour. There was only ONE Uncle Al. He will be missed by Marla, Micah, Maiky, our extended family, myself and all who knew him.
    HAROLD Groberman … proud nephew

  9. Hi Cory, Michael, Lewis, and all ten grandchildren,
He was a very proud Zaida proud of the successes of his kids & Grand kids.
I remember many things about Al, as he lived with us while going to UBC,
He took me to football games, the beach, and I was always welcome in their home, when they lived in Vancouver. I spent a lot of time with him in his last few weeks, and always hoped when I went to see him at the hospital, he would be better, but he always knew who I was, and always thanked me for coming.

  15. My heartfelt condolences to the Gelmon family. I have only warm memories of Uncle Al, my Zaida’s youngest sibling. I remember him scooping me up in his arms as I came for a visit during a summer when I was about 9 years old. Uncle Al always made me feel important, what a wonderful attribute, and it is how I will always remember him.

    Dear Cory, Michael and Lewis,
Etched in my mind is the dominant figure perusing his empire with the tenacity of a bull terrier and the gentleness of a kitten and his beliefs. He fought for his family and his beliefs. Inspiring and caring, our family was one of the lucky recipients of his love. We cared back, and he became our ‘Uncle Al’. If you were his friend, it was forever…and so it is. We lost one of the great ones, and he will never be forgotten.

We lived next door to Al & Family on Kildonan Cr. I have so many memories of him growing up. He felt like a friend even though I was just a kid – his smile, his warmth, his genuine interest in others. He welcomed us to the Bar Mitzvahs of the boys which seemed like a special privilege. I wish I could be at the funeral to honour him. Condolences to all the family.

  22. Lewis, Cory, Michael,

My family and i were very saddened to hear about the passing of your dad. He was a very special person to my dad and our family. My dad always spoke about Uncle Al as his best friend emanating from their amazing bonding experience in Israel in 1948.

He will always be remembered as Uncle Al with a big huge smile and warm presence. Even nearing the end when his memory waned at Weinberg Residence he was warm, happy and a pleasure to be around..it was really nice to see him in his last year as he always reminded me of my dad and their fantastic relationship.

He was especially someone that left a lasting positive impression on me growing up and through my adult adult years every time he popped in from Calgary. Uncle Al was always interested in what we were doing and conversed in glowing terms about his boys and their accomplishments. It is very sad to see the end of this era however all good things eventually come to an end.

Our sincerest condolences and heartfelt best wishes to you guys, all the best and hope we can stay connected.

Regards, Howard Lenett & the Lenett Family.
