Donald (Bugs) Garrow, beloved husband of Bev Garrow (nee Mitchell) of Calgary, AB, married forty-eight years, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the age of 85 years.
Bugs was born in Vernon, BC on March 22, 1934 and moved to Calgary when he was 17, joining the Canadian Armed Forces, where he drove a tank. Following his time in the Army, Bugs drove a double-A Fuel Dragster in the racing community in the late 60’s and early 70’s, mainly at Shepherd Raceway, but could be seen at racing events across Western Canada. A registered mechanic, who later held a class one license, Bugs became a heavy haul truck driver in the oil field industry. Bugs retired from Calgary Transit in 1999.
Bugs was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Korean Veteran Association (KVA), Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Regimental Association, Sinner’s Car Club and Willy’s Jeep Club. Bugs loved to go camping and was an avid four-wheeler, when he was not working on vehicles in his garage with close friends.
Besides his loving wife, Bev, Bugs is survived by his brother, Ted (Joan); aunt, Eileen; sister-in-law, Donna; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children. Bugs was predeceased his parents, his uncle, and his brother, Frank.
