FRANSON, Gordon Grant

Gordon Grant Franson of Calgary, AB, passed away on February 6, 2019 at the age of 63.

Gord was born in Golden, BC on April 17, 1955, to Leonard and Patricia Franson. He was raised in Golden, BC, graduating from high school there. He continued his education at the University of Calgary. Gord had a passion for his career in flying as a Captain for the majority of his life, he travelled to many countries throughout his career. He continued his career as a Red Arrow motor coach driver until the time of his passing. The loves of life were; skiing, travel, socializing with his friends and building his own airline, which he was doing at the time of his passing. He had a passion for animals, music, aviation and Harley Davidson motorbikes. Gord had a very loving and kind heart, he had a lot of empathy for the less fortunate, always there to lend a hand when you needed him. He had an enjoyment in cooking and was especially good at his homemade waffles, which we will all greatly miss.

Gord is survived by his wife, Corinne; his children, Ashley (Lance) and Chase; stepchildren, Shawn (Jaclyn), Jamie (Crystal), Brett, Loni (Dane) and Christian; grandchildren, Cole, Sophia, Carson, Dalliz, Jaiden and Madison; his brother, Terry (Frances) Franson; sisters, Sharon and Tami (Derek) Colonna and many nieces and nephews. Gord was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Patricia Franson; brother, Dougie; as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles.

He will always be remembered for his strength, courage and inspiration during his six year battle with cancer.

Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Golden, BC at a later date.

  4. Gord Franson was a very special friend. I will miss him immensely and will always remember him with the greatest fondness and respect. We spent endless hours chatting while traveling to and from Red Deer on the Red Arrow bus. It was on those trips that we connected as cancer survivors and in so many other ways. And when he invited me to be a part of his remarkable airline dream, I was deeply honored and privileged. I’m saddened that Gord never got a chance to see his dream become reality. It would have been wonderful indeed to have seen Gord’s joy and pride on that day!
